Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Best pizza in San Diego. + Mona and Pauly are just great people recipe is awesome service is awesome I really enjoy going there always feels like you're at home. If you looking for the best pizza in San Diego with a fair price you gotta check out Pauly's
(5)Jeff B.
So.. this is coming from a native New Yorker( Staten Island). Pauly's pizza is hands down one of the best is SD. I first had Pauly's when it was down town. That was back when you would ALWAYS find Pauly in house tossing dough. The quality is not the same when he is not there but, that being said, it's still a DAMN GOOD PIE!
(4)Janet W.
Thanks for making a gluten free pizza that is really good! Never knew of the place before. I will be getting my pizza here from now on. Beats Sammy's Woodfired anyday! (I have Celiac.) They even delivered to Duckfoot Brewery - another plus!
(5)Mato S.
These guys make a good thin crust, East Coast style pie. It's s small place with a basic "pizza joint atmosphere" that roughly seats 30 people. Located in a strip mall near La Jolla, CA, it was the perfect pit stop after a day at the beach. They also had some other more adventurous options such as pesto chicken, etc. but we just wanted a good ol' slice of cheese.
(4)Mike E.
Good pizza. I go here for lunch and buy 2 or 3 slices and a pop. Great price good pizza. I would recommend this place. As a side note parking lot is a beeotch to park in.
(4)Vicky M.
Wanted to try another pizza place in Mira Mesa besides Pizza Hit or Papa John's. Figured a place with 4.5 stars and over 200 reviews must be a decent pizza place. Pauly's made an exceptional 18" NY style thin crust pie! We enjoyed the loaded veggie pizza very much. Better than their competitors by far. Would have given 5 stars but wasn't a fan of the lightly spiced Italian seasoning in the sauce.
(4)Amber M.
Very delicious. I got the calzone with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and meatballs. The service was superb as well. Small store, so not a great place for a large party but for the food and value, u can't beat it.
(5)Jax D.
Bomb. I was so pleased with their pizza. Got a slice of pepperoni and bbq chicken. Went back another day for a calzone and a side of green stuff my food usually eats. Fantastic. A+ boys.
(5)Justin T.
Best pizza place I ever been to Chicken bacon ranch an the pesto pizza is the best by far
(5)Stacey B.
This is the best pizza in the world!!!! My family and i really enjoy this pizza!!! The costumer service here is exceptional too!!! Definitely come here!!!! The Stromboli is outta this world!!!!
(5)Peter L.
The quality has gone downhill especially if pauly is not preparing the pizza. The last time I went, the pie was overcooked. The crust should be chewy, not crunchy. I was there a few days ago and it was a younger guy preparing the pizza. The previous time I went a few months ago, a mexican cashier and mexican cook were talking incessantly (even badmouthing pauly in spanish). After I ordered she failed to tell the cook (because she was so engrossed in her conversation with him). I ended up waiting 30 minutes to get my pie. Totally unacceptable customer service. If pauly is not there, i do not recommend eating there. When the cats away, the mice will play.

Who can say no to pizza, especially Paulys Pizza! Perfectly thin crust, quality ingredient friendly and welcoming employees. Came here for lunch on a whim, it's been years since I've had Paulys but I will not spend that much time away from this gem again! Now that I live close by again it will be much easier to satisfy my pizza cravings and by the slice. Me and my boyfriend had 3 slices to share jalapeño pepperoni, bbq chicken and what the lovely lady serving us called "Christmas pie" because the slice looked like Christmas :) (how cute right?) anyway, we sat and ate there, the shop is small but there is plenty of seating. While waiting we watched sports center on the tv ( sports center and pizza? Come on what more do you need in life? Lol ) and looked at the "Paul's" framed and pictured on the wall. We had a great lunch and could not have asked for better food or service :) We'll be back soon!
(5)Rawley M.
Holy moly. Awesome pizza. We had their chipotle chicken pizza. They delivered to Duck Foot Brewing Co.! It was amazing and hit hit the spot!
(5)Camilo A.
Absolutely amazing service and delicious pizza! A piece of one of my slices broke off in the oven and the lady working the register gave me an extra slice for free. Would highly recommend getting the artichoke pizza and adding mushrooms. Overall the best thin crust pizza I've had in San Diego.
(5)Jaclyn S.
If you're craving some good ol' New York style thin crust pizza this is the place to go! A true little gem and definitely my boyfriend and I's new favorite cheap pizza joint. Pauly, the owner is super nice and serves up BOMB pizza with plenty of options!
(5)Kimmy C.
The first time I had Pauly's.... I feel so deeply in love with the restaurant, with the old guy running the joint, the humble mom & pop digs.. and of course.. the pizza. Omg the pizza was delicious new york style slice of heaven... I could shamelessly eat a whole pie myself. Although I still very much adore their pizza where I will have a blue moon hankering.. the last couple of times we stopped by.. they stumbled a little in our take out orders. Not enough to stop me from coming.. but I guess if you order toward their closing hours.. there may be a bit of a rush job. For example, the most recent visit resulted in the pizza being jammed in the box all funky that they folded the pizza down really weird and then proceeded to cut it all bizarre. Now it doesn't take away from the taste. Still ate the pie.. I just remember the whitecaps tasting way more garlicy and delcious than it did this time around.. Still. very much recommend hitting up the joint. Definitely try Pauly's if you've got a hankering for NY Style pizza. Side note: It is BEHIND the Carl's Jr. Google Maps is not completely on point with many of the Miramar locations.

First experience was not very good. Their pizza on display by the slices did not look all too fresh and appetizing to eat. I even saw a fruit fly roaming on one of my friend's slices.. Gross.... My friend didn't want to make a scene so we just let it fly. The main thing that wasn't appealing to me was their pizza display, there were only 2 slices left of each pizza. They had like 8 options you could choose from but honestly they all looked so similar and really lacked in variety. Even their Hawaiian was a fail, it was just pineapples and pepperoni (no ham...) Ended up just ordering the Hawaiian (pepperoni and pineapple) and the Chicken Pesto (chicken pesto and Ricotta chunks). I thought reheating their slices might save the day but sadly I was not very content with the quality here. It tasted like leftover pizza as the crust was so crunchy and not good. I looked at other people's table and most ended up not finishing up the pizza crust. I get it's thin crust but it was thin crust the wrong way here. To put into perspective, Bronx Pizza is way better than this place. Sadly Yelp led me to a bad experience. No idea how this can be a 4+ star establishment. Should have just went to Regents Pizzeria. Given that I've been to Italy, NY, and Chicago, I think I have a general idea of what a good pizza would taste like and this is way off the mark. To confirm this experience I was overhearing other folks that trickled in to get a pizza and were also disappointed at the lack of fresh pizza available and folks were asking when the next batches were coming out and they said they weren't going to unless they really needed to. Oddly enough I heard them say they could quickly cook a fresh slice for the customer but wasn't quite sure how you would do that. Thought you usually had to bake a whole pizza. Maybe I misheard. Provided I came around 12:30, not sure how they could not be churning fresh pizza during these hours. First time visitor and last time visitor here.

One of San Diego's hidden gems, this pizza joint needs more credit! Small little shop in the Miramar district, PPJ offers giant New York style pizza slices that are fresh, flavorful, and have scrupulous toppings. The meats definitely scream with flavor, and the breading and sauce compliment each other to perfection. Favorite Pie: Mikey Show Plus: Many beers available from the local brews, specifically Rough Draft.
(5)Kyle D.
So glad I stopped here today. I had Gino's pizza a block over just last week and enjoyed it, but I saw this place and had to give it a shot too. Sorry, Gino's but this won in all aspects! I counted 16 different pizzas available for slices. Gino's had 6... This place charges $6 for 2 slices n a soda...and there's no tax! I got BBQ chicken and chicken pesto and they were delicious. Good crust for a thin crust too and not greasy n gross at all. Gino's was a lot more greasy, too greasy. Parking is so much better in this lil food complex too compared to Gino's a block over and when u have limited time for lunch that's kinda important. Friendly staff, chatting with everyone. Great pizza and a nice big ole flat screen with sports on. I've officially found my new lunchtime pizza spot
(5)Philip P.
So good! Best pizza around base. Delicious crust and interesting specialty pizza choices. Pretty decent pricing as well. My family and I were new to the area and found Pauly's on Yelp when we were still moving in and will definitely be returning. There are a lot of places around base which I would not recommend for dinner but Pauly's will be a staple for my family's pizza night.

Pauly is the perfect name for a guy who runs a pizza joint. In my head, I have images of two guys walking in wearing suits who immediately shout "hey, Pauly!" and then begin discussing that day's business in the Cosa Nostra. Which businesses to pressure, who to kill, whose mama to send condolences to, etc. Well, except this place is more of a dive with several HDTVs turned to sports. So unless games get fixed here, the fantasy is ruined. Fortunately, the pizza doesn't suck. My friend and I ordered the "TKO" meatatarian pizza. (Why it's called "TKO" and not the more impressive "KO," I don't know. We should ask Justin Timberlake.) The excellent quality of the toppings were the best part, with good quality cheese and good sauce and crust rounding out the package. The pizza was cooked to a perfect degree, neither too raw or too well done. Summary: Hey, Pauly.
(4)Doug T.
Bar none, the best New York style pizza place in San Diego! Paulys uses the highest quality ingredients which is clearly evident in the sublime taste of the pizza. Not too greasy with just the right consistency. They offer at least 12 varieties of pizzas, along with salads, calzones and sandwiches. Everything is made fresh, and the prices and deals are the best in SD! Not to mentioned the incredible customer service - best in town! The owner and managers are the coolest, most helpful people who are genuinely concerned about the customer's satisfaction and about offering nothing but the best products. They even accommodate special requests sometimes! For Valentines Day, the owner personally made several heart shaped pizzas for my girlfriend and I. For close to three years now, I've been going to Pauly's and every time I go is tastier than before! With the quality of food they deliver, they will be around for a LONG time so make the trip down Miramar and be sure to stop at this fantastic pizza place!!
(5)Azi S.
Delicious and fast delivery! Tax included in price. Big slices, fresh ingredients I would eat there again for sure.
(4)Rhea M.
Love the Buffalo chicken pizza service is prompt I just wish they were closer to the 15
(4)Truc N.
I'd have to agree that's a good slice of new york style pie. Crust is slightly crunchy. Cheese and toppings are not too abundant but flavorful. 2 slices of their many available variety and a soda for $6 is a good deal :)
(4)Matthew L.
I've read the Reviews been to many of the "Top Rated" Pizza places in San diego and how this place isn't rated #1 boggles my mind. This is like what I thought I was gonna get at "Bronx Pizza", highly overrated by the way. It is an experience not just pizza that you don't have to pay a rediculous price for. Problem with most people reviewing East coast style pizza is there not from the east coast. Not their fault they just don't know cause they didn't grow up there. So if you're looking for Great pizza take it from a Jersey born and raised Pizza connoisseur. This is it.

If the sign in your window says you close at 10, don't put the chairs up at 9:15 and fly out of your establishment like a bat out of hell. Stay there to serve your customers or change your hours.
(1)Cindy W.
Husband came by my work to take me out to lunch, on a whim, since we needed some time to enjoy some food to ourselves, without the kids. He suggested this place since we were in the mood for pizza. The place is kinda small, tight to stand in line, limited seating, weird wall art (one mentioned something about "when was the last time you got a hickey?" so random). We each got two slices of pizza and a drink for $12 total, not bad at all! Our pizza came out fresh from the oven so they didn't have to reheat it for us. The pizza was perfectly cooked and I was a happy person. Nice little joint in the small plaza with compact parking spaces.
(4)Edgar C.
This place has full pies ready to go. The pies sit behind a glass window just in case someone sneezes/coughs/bites/ etc. They always have over 8 pies to choose from, from a simple pepperoni to burrata mozzarella with pesto. You can choose any slice for $2.50. As soon as you order they throw it in the oven and bring it to your table within minutes. The slice is a pretty decent size with lots of flavor. It can feel a little greasy but what the heck is pizza. Just wash it down with a beer (which they do have). Finally, they have one tv and you can usually catch any game going on. Only downside it always feels crowded. One, because is busy during lunch hour and two, they try to fit in to many tables in a small room. -E

Sorry, Milo's. I think this is my new favorite pizza in San Diego. Everything about their pizza is perfect to me, but I am totally obsessed with their spinach and mushroom pizza. The spinach gets all crispy from the oven and the sweetness of the ricotta (?) cheese with the fresh garlic just gets me every time. I've also tried the cheese pizza, which is almost a little spicy from the tomato sauce -- so good! The BBQ chicken is also amazing. Great chicken and tangy BBQ sauce. Their crust is perfect too. I hate thick crust. All that dough and bread just creeps me out. I like my crust to be more like a cracker and Pauly's has the perfect crust. Just, wow. I usually eat a late lunch, so it's never crowded when I go in, but the other day I did eat lunch at a normal time (12:30PM) and while it was crazy busy inside, there were still plenty of tables and I didn't have to wait long for my pizza at all. $5 for two slices and always friendly service. Pizza is my favorite thing ever and this pizza just does it. I've declared Pizza Fridays, so I treat myself at the end of every work week with two perfect (how many times have I typed 'perfect' in this review?) slices of pizza from Pauly's. [Insert smiley face with hearts in its eyes here]
(5)Ayush B.
This is the pizza place you want to go to! They have interesting pizza by slice and you can always grt your own pie like me for 10 with three toppings!! Staff is really friendly too. The crust is crispy and thin
(5)Todd P.
I love this place. Parking is a bitch but worth the try. Wanting a meatball sub but not understanding the menu layout I simply ordered the pizza slice but turns out they do have some sandwich type food thingies. Pizzas are all right there behind the glass waiting for you to chose so I wont bother to describe what your own eyes will tell you. The choices are grand. $6.00 for one slice, a salad and a soda. That seems pretty damn cheap to me. As usual I wimped out on trying something different and just ordered pepperoni but my brother cut a bite of pesto pizza off for me. It is fantastic. My bad for not asking about the meatball sandwich before hand. There was a line and I didn't want to be one of those jerks that hold up a line. Next time I'll try something a bit more on the wild side. Not that the pepperoni was ordinary. It was very good. So, now you know, go try Pauly's Pizza Joint. You're gonna wish you knew sooner. Go there. Go now. Do it. I mean it! Just do it!
(5)Paul J.
My favorite pizza joint down in the UTC area, other than Regents Pizza. In my opinion, pizza is San Diego is a lost art, and only few joints can really get it right. Paulys pizza - i love their cheeses and marinara, and thin yet crunchy crust. I think Regents has the best texture in crusts with a slight yield while being crunchy - but when it comes to a cheese pizza, Pauly's makes a mean one. I think pauly's tastes better than Bronx pizza, but bronx offers more variety and is in a better location. Regents is still my favorite quality pizza, but Paulys, for being about 20% cheaper than Regents, is my pizza place of choice if Regents is busy (which they usually are) Pauly's offers an incredible 2 pizzas and a coke for 5 bucks on the weekdays - killer deal
(5)Vicki W.
I made the choice to try this pizza shop as a friend of mine had recommended it. I ordered a fair amount of food as I was planning on using the leftovers for lunches throughout the week. When I arrived at the shop to pick up my food, I was only handed one small looking bag, so I wanted to double check my order. When I did, I confirmed they had given me someone else's order. They had already given my order away so they asked if I could wait while they prepared my order. I elected to wait as I was already in the shop. After about 15 minutes my new order was ready, and I was happy to note that all the items I had requested were in the bag. I got my food home and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. However, I may not return as I was disappointed in the order being mistakenly given to someone else and the lack of apology related to my order mistake.
(2)Carolyn B.
Pauly's Pizza Joint is one of the best pizza shop in that area. and they have made co-operating and friendly atmosphere in their shop . Saw Pauly's Joint on Facebook You Know you're from West Milford NJ. Owner Paul Franza was a high school class mate of mine and I was visiting San Diego and had to drop by and say hi and try a slice. Hadn't seen Paul since 1978, good to catch up and glad to see him doing what he loves, making great Jersey style pizza.
(4)Marvin B.
Not sure what was different about tonight, but I've gotten delivery from Pauly's about 5 times without a problem. The driver tells me there is a 5 mile maximum and that they would not deliver my order. I check google maps after the call and It was 4.8 miles from my location. It never ends well when businesses get lazy.
(2)Erik G.
Took out a pizza for Monday Night Football with the family. It was a Half Pepperoni and Half Pauly's Walnuts (their version of Supreme). The crust was thin and chewy and the ingredients were better than most. Pepperoni not overly greasy and still had a flavor profile to it after being cooked, the sausage and mixture of peppers, olives, pepperoni, on the other half was very good too. The people here are very friendly. They are eager to talk and accomodate what you want. I like that it's right off Miramar Rd (next to a Roberto's and an Indian restaurant). I'll be ordering take out here again.
(4)Luis Q.
My favorite pizza joint to have lunch in Miramar, hands down! 2 slices and a soda for $6, doesn't get any better than that. The pizza is always fresh and the employees are very welcoming with an east coast ambience!
(5)Jae C.
Love, love, love!!!! The pizzas are fantastic and the service is superior!!! I ordered 9 pizzas for my kids birthday party and not only they were made to perfection, Pauly was even kind enough to make ninja turtles out of them. Thank you so much for making our children's birthday party so memorable. We will definitely order from you again and more importantly, we will recommend your pizzas to all of our friends and family.
(5)David L.
Awesome space!! We go here a few times a month. Best pizza we have ever had. We love the huge chunks of cheese on the spinach a trois. We also love the Christmas Pie. They delivered pizza to us when closed once and they hooked me up with a free slice on another because they were a few minutes late on their pizza. Come. Eat. Here.!!!
(5)Cassandra R.
By the slice or order a whole pie...end up getting a whole pie by-the-slice and it's cheaper than ordering a whole pie, which lets you sample a ton of their stuff. Usually by the slice sucks because it's been sitting there all day and it's dried out and stale or overcooked...no problem with that here, fosho. I'm so disturbed though at how many people gave a crap review to the service and people running the place...I had a fantastic experience with these people! Maybe I'm a crap person myself and that's why I got along with them so well? Aww, too introspective. Seriously, all joking aside, I've been so disappointed in San Diego pizza since moving here a year ago and this was the first one I was particularly excited about! Give it a go, it's really good!
(4)Billy P.
One of my favorite pizza places in San Diego. $2.50 slices can't be beat and they have good topping combos. You can even put together a whole pizza from the slices they have in the window. Here's a little anecdote about their customer service. My brother got in a motorcycle crash down the street while I was eating at Paulys and they gave me two slices on the house to bring to my brother.
(5)Bruce E.
Great pizza, thin crust, great dough, but not too crisp. Meat pizza is great. Stay with that. Greek salad was pretty good. Place is hard too find and a little sketch..
(4)Jack M.
I like these pizza joints that sell pizza by the slice. Pauly's offers two large slices, from a variety to choose from, and a drink for $6: a pretty average price. For the pizza, I tried their BBQ Chicken and a Meat Lovers ( yelp.com/biz_photos/paul… ) with a bottle of water. Both slices had a great crunchy thin crust with a ever so slight chew in the inner most parts of the thicker parts of the slice ( yelp.com/biz_photos/paul… ). The crust was very well prepared. My favorite of the two, was the meat lovers. It had a good amount of cheese, crispy and chewy pepperoni, tender savory sausage, and I added a sprinkling of dried oregano flakes that enhanced its flavor ( yelp.com/biz_photos/paul… ). A great choice. The BBQ chicken was good too yet simple, and it came with a modest amount of chicken that needed some seasoning, a good amount of cheese, and a mild slightly sweet BBQ sauce. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/paul… ) However, the slice needed something else to give it more character. Perhaps some scallions or chopped onions. The young lady, Monette, who was running the show, was very cool and had a great sense of humor. I liked that she said you can customize your slice if you inquire. The place has a few tables out in front, but most of the seating is inside. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/paul… ) Great East Coast Pizza.
(4)Justin T.
One of the best pizza place's in San Diego! Ok maybe I have a soft spot for n.y. style pizza, along with a soft spot for pizza in general! With that said if your into a great pizza slice it's nice to know you can now get one in mirramar! Very good, ambiance is kinda plain so for a date you might wanna order to go ;) I will definitely be back!! Happy eating!!!
(5)D G.
Super great pizza. I came here twice in two days as the cell phone repair place next door had to do the repair twice... Back to pizza, great pizza. Good service. Self serve fountain drinks and water. Glad to learn they deliver. We will have it brought to the office on Fridays in lieu of Papa Johns.
(5)Sam C.
There was a variety of pre-made pizzas to choose from behind a glass counter. Once you choose your slices they reheat it for you in an oven. The slices were huge and came out of the oven crispy and piping hot. Pretty inexpensive as well at $5 for 2 slices. $1 to add a drink.
(4)K W.
Wow. Fantastic. Doesn't look like much but the price is great and food is excellent. Got the two pizza, salad and a soda. Salad was way above what was expected. lots of toppings no skimping on the dressing. Will for site come here again
(5)Candice C.
I was born and raised in New York City all my 30 years and moved to San Diego and been living here now 7 years. My husband recent met the owner of this spot and he told me that the owner is from New York and that the pizza should be good. I couldn't help but be hesitant cuz many pizza owners say that they have the "New York pizza" here in San Diego and all their pizzas fail to have that real New York flavor. So I didn't believe my husband when he said paulys should be good... So we drive far to get here to still give it a try. I tell you now - this is the best and ONLY real New York pizza in San Diego. I had one bite and I was impressed. Even just looking at it you can read NYC all over it. The right amount of cheese, sauce, and oils.... And the thin crust dough - superb. You will not be disappointed
(5)Ceasar D.
First time I've had a Stromboli. Very satisfied, will try the 2 slice combo next time!
(5)Rodger G.
I ordered the veggie pizza. To have it delivered to my house they did not charge me a delivery fee. It took about an hour for the pizza to be delivered, so order on the sooner side if you are prudent enough. On to the pizza: crispy, thin crusted, delicious. The veggies were piled on high and the pizza itself was quite large ( for around $20.00). This is the best pizza place, I believe, in a 15 mile radius of Miramar.

So, we've ordered (delivery) from here twice now. And I reeeaallly wanted to like them. I'm an East Coast expatriate, in a desperate hunt for decent pizza in San Diego. I came across reviews of Pauly's here on yelp and found some of the pictures rather promising. I thought I'd hit pay dirt - real pizza in the middle of all those breweries! Unfortunately, on both occasions that we sampled their pies, the specter of San Diego loomed large. Yep, we got the dreaded under-cooked pie. Our first order wasn't too bad. The pizza was decent overall: nice and thin with good cheese & toppings, but I wished I'd asked for it well-done. It hadn't occurred to me to ask for that since many of the photos looked good. Yesterday we gave them another call and, much to my chagrin, we again forgot to request it to be well-done. And sadly, this time it was a much bigger disappointment. When we ordered, they said it'd be a 45 minute wait, which would've been fine. The pizza ended up being delivered within half an hour - which would've been great, had it been nicely cooked. I'd really prefer to wait a longer to have it be properly browned. I don't understand the reluctance of local pizzerias to actually cook their pies. I'm really not asking for anything ridiculous; I'd just like the pizza to reflect the fact that it just came out of a hot oven. It shouldn't be the same color as when it went in! We had a couple slices left over which we gave away to people who also commented that it was under-done. So it ain't just me. We'll probably give them another chance next time we're in the neighborhood and need food. But I'm not in any great hurry and I most assuredly won't forgot to ask for it to be well-done again. It's incredibly frustrating, because these guys are really close to serving pretty darn good pizza. But, for the love of Pete, PLEASE COOK it!

Ok, so I've been back a few times now and I can say with full confidence that this is some of the best NY style pizza in town with none of the bullshit attitude! Moderate sized slices with amazing flavors and fresh topping combinations that will blow your taste bud's away. The crust is perfectly thin and crunchy in all the right spots. Sauce is awesomely light, flavorful, and portioned appropriately for the toppings. Cheese - real mozzarella, not that oily American cheese stuff. My favorite are slices with fresh dollops of ricotta cheese. So much fat, but so much more awesome flavor. Service is prompt and friendly. Slices are out in a hurry. Can't beat two slices and a drink for $6 or three slices and a drink for $9. Definitely a solid meal that leaves you satisfied. You win, Pauly!

Great pizza, prices, highly recommend as an alternative to the high priced, doughy pizzas commonly found in the UTC area.

Pauly's Pizza Joint is located in an "L" shaped shopping strip behind the Carl Jr's on Miramar Road. Parking is a challenge because the spaces are tight and little space to maneuver. They have some seating outside and some inside. The place isn't why you should go there or order for carry-out, delivery, or catering.... the reason is the food is awesome! I went there with three kids and normally it is a pain to get them to eat pizza (weird, huh?). But, I ordered a half-Hawaiian, half-Chicken Ranch and they devoured the pizza! Going to have to get pizza here again soon! And try the other specialties. Kudos!

Alright, going for short and sweet. Looking for a place near work where the ladies and I could order for lunch. Somehow, I took over, and the task became mine. Unless you're really into party planning you know this can become a pain. Who takes lunch when, did everyone contribute enough money, who will bring drinks? It's a whole thing. Pauly's made me look like a champ. Only bummer I experienced was they didn't have take out menus. I tried to print it off the net but I didn't really know how to alter it before printing to make it printout friendly, so with black background and small writing it was barely legible. They were friendly, prompt and the food was awesome. Long story, but I am an idiot and I had to call to give them my work address more than once and they didn't sound irritated or make a big deal out of it. We got the Margarita, Christmas, White caps and Garlic (with cheese) Pizzas. All amazing, all hot and all a hit. Everything was perfect. The consistency, temperature and crust was perfect. Couldn't pick a favorite because they were all very good. They allowed me to call my order in a day in advance, I told them it was a work thing and they brought paper plates and napkins etc. it was all nice. All in all this was an impossible place to write a short review on because there was so many great things about it. I'm actually very jealous because it's about 9 miles away from my house. I've got Bronx which doesn't deliver and Luigi's that lacks in consistent delivery service but don't even get me started. This place gets my stamp in every facet and I'm thankful to them and Yelp for making it happen. :-)

Wow- amazing pizza date night. My first real pizza since moving here from Minneapolis where we know good pie. My background is doing a bit of critic work while photographing food for a major publication. The service is amazibg. We got our pizza in no time despite a huge order around 9 pm of which looked like 30 pizzas. I loved watching our pizza under construction, what art- we had the Christmas pizza and my ONLY complaint may have been too salty but I don't know how many pizzas I've had with bacon on them or it may have been I added more parmesean. Hell, no matter what it was great. The owner made our pizza which impressed me being a business owner I know why he has made his own slice of heaven in san diego I just wanted a bathroom to wash my hands after my night watching the sunset and having to hike and climb getting my hands dirty . Thanks Pauly
(5)david g.
What is left to say about a place that already has almost 200 reviews and 4.5 stars?? We ordered 15 pies for my son's birthday party. Paulie delivered them himself as the delivery was right after they opened, and it was beyond their normal delivery range. It was the rare pizza party where both the kids and the adults loved the pizza. All the parents asked where the pizza came from, as it was the best they had ever had in San Diego. I will eat pizza on pearl in a heart beat. Brooklyn pizza and Hoboken are pretty good. But there's a special level of pizza that only a few places get to. Regents and Basic watch out, Pauly's has joined the club.
(5)Deanna A.
Just got food poisoning yesterday. Chicken ranch pizza must of been sitting out all day or was bad because few hours after eating there I had the worst night ever! Never coming back.. Smh!! Very disappointed!!
(1)Michelle T.
One of my favorite pizza joints! I like to come here during my work lunches. Parking can be difficult as it is really cramped and dinky. There are NY style thin crusts pizzas already made. All you have to do is pick and choose the ones you want and they will toast it up. I usually get 2 slices and a soda for $6. Of course you can still order freshly made whole pies good for parties. Pauly's has a wide variety of pizzas, catering to both omnivores and vegetarians alike. They make their ricotta cheese in house and it is absolutely delicious! One of my slices is usually one that contains that ricotta cheese. It is a must try for sure! The buffalo pizza has a nice, tangy buffalo sauce that is complemented by a creamy ranch dressing. The Mona Vi is one of their vegetarian pizzas that includes artichoke hearts. Mmm my fave! Great service with awesome pizza!
(5)Vitaliy L.
Decent pizza. Nothing amazing. Ordered the veggie pizza and waited and waited and waited. They finally brought it after they realized it was sitting there for at least 15 minutes. The crust was super soggy, but pizza tasted decent. 3 stars for pizza but docking a star cuz the pizza sat there and got soggy. Not going back.
(2)Tony C.
On par with luigi's. Crust wasn't as tasty as Bronx or basic but the consistency and char was perfect. Thin, Crispy, light and flexible. Also I think it's noteworthy that the different slices had distinct flavors very different from each other. I use to wonder why I couldn't be fortunate enough to work someplace within walking distance from Bronx pizza. Now that I work in miramar, I couldn't be happier to have discovered this place! I tried the pepperoni, the works and the Italian. All great.
(5)Paula F.
Nice folks, fast service, delicious food... Reminds me of the food you find in pizzerias "back east" (New England/NY/NJ/PA). Mmmmm, sausage roll bliss...
(5)Romero R.
Damn good pizza place! Friendly people too. Ordered my pizza but guy put wrong slices in oven. Noticed my look of disappointment and asked what was wrong I told him I wanted a diff slice. Went back gave me slice I wanted on the house. Awesome pizza place!
(5)Walt C.
Very good pizza. Had to try while in town for Seaworld and San Diego Zoo Safari based on all the positive reviews alone. Delivery was very fast and all interactions with staff was positive. Would definitely order from here again!
(4)Shane S.
Ok I'm from the northeast and have lived all over the place for the last 20 years so I have had different types of pizza from around the world claiming to be New York. This place is on point. I will drive here whenever I have the urge for excellent pizza.
(5)shari k.
Pizza: Always amazing. Service: Hit-or-miss. The first time I had a pizza from here was when I was at St. Archer's Brewery getting a beer. The table next to me had ordered one and got delivery right at the brewery. I asked where they got it and ended up ordering a pie for my table as well. It took kind of a long time (considering they are practically right next door), but I guess they do deliveries in batches or something. THE PIZZA WAS AMAZING. The second time, I called in an order for pick up. They said it'd take around 15 minutes. I get there and tell them I called in an order. The guy gave me attitude and claimed that they had not received any phone orders in the past hour WTF? So I had to re-order then and wait another 25 minutes for them to make it. But their pizza is soooo good that I was willing to overlook the bad service. I went there a 3rd time. As before, I called in my order for pick up. When I got there, 25 minutes after placing the order by phone, the pizza wasn't done. The guy was super nice and apologized that my order wasn't ready yet and offered me and my buddies some free sodas while we waited. Totally made up for the crummy service last time. So, the service is hit-or-miss, depending on who's working, I guess. But the pizza is consistently phenomenal. THE best pizza in the area. I recommend the Christmas Pie.
(4)Michael L.
Pizza is probably 3 stars, but docking a star for service. We called ahead for pickup. Estimate was 25 minutes, we showed up exactly 30 minutes after we put in the call (I checked my phone log). When we showed up and they said they had made our pizza but given it away. Uh, what? Messed up! It also seems like it's not the first time something like that's happened, given the other reviews. We waited, got the pizza fresh out of the oven, and were extra hungry. But the pizza was... a little disappointing. The ingredients seemed good quality, but the crust was really soft, barely any structure at all. We go to NYC pretty often, and were just there 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure why other people are raving about this place. We've had worse pizza in, say, Queens. But we've also had better pizza just in other parts of SoCal, and FAR superior pizza around Manhattan, Harlem, etc. Not worth the $20/pie.
(2)Neil D.
Awesome pizza! The crust is thin and light. Dough is unlike any other that I've tasted so far in San Diego. I love the veggie and pesto margarita. Can be bit of a wait during rush hours or weekend but well worth the wait. Best to order ahead and pickup or eat it there. 4 stars only cause the establishment needs some repair like the entry door that doesn't close by itself so cold air gets in especially in the evening when it gets chilly. I've been there 3x and the front glass still hasn't been repaired (boarded up). You have to go behind the counter to actually fill-up your fountain drink. All actually funny but maybe this adds character to the establishment and wouldn't be Pauly's if it was repaired.
(4)Veronica E.
Yum, Yum, Yum! Pizza is tasty, hot, and addicting. The whole crew is cool. A total recommendation!
(5)Tuyen N.
I know the New Yorkers and East Coast peeps are gonna hate on me and I might actually deserve it but Pauly's Pizza was better than the pizza I had out there. =/ Now some will say that maybe I just didn't eat at the right place when I went to NY. I might agree with you but I still stand by my opinion. The this crust, cheese and variety of toppings were too good! And don't even get me started on the price. Two slices for $5 and even cheaper if you just mix & match a bunch of slices to make up a whole pie! I think it was like $15 for a whole pie. Love it! This place is pretty popular for lunch but I think that is also when the most variety is available. I've had the artichoke/Mediterranean, margherita, bbq chicken and bacon, pepperoni & jalapeno and plain cheese and I know I didn't try them all yet. I even came in for dinner with a couple friends and the sweet Filipina cashier came out to welcome a regular customer with a couple free slices and a piece of cheesecake for his birthday. That's pretty awesome. But even more awesome was that she gave my friends and I a piece of cheesecake too! I will be back for sure and will always bring a bunch of friends so we can get a whole pie!
(4)Eva L.
Since I just reviewed Bongournos I can not leave out Pauly's Pizza Joint. It can be a little hard to find, I always look for the Carl's Jr sign on MiraMar Road. Pauly's is a close second to Bongournos. The sauce is amazing and the crust is thin and crisp. Very, Very Good. Anytime I'm over on that side of town I have to stop in and get a slice to go.
(5)Emerald C.
The pizza is so good. I loved it. I would recommend to order a personal, its cheap.
(5)David K.
Pure bomb. THIS is the real deal, East Coast style pizza. Thin crust that's both crispy and chewy, cheese with tang and just the right amount of sauce. Pauly himself is there often and is fun to speak with. The prices are a tad high for straight up pizza, but I regularly drive 15+ minutes to get pie here; it's that good.
(5)Luke W.
Stopped in late on a Saturday, ordered a few slices. They were heated up in the oven quickly and brought right out. Thin and long, new york style (I think). Decent but it didn't blow me away. It's tough to find pizza places that sell pizza by the slice so that is nice. The interior was a bit cramped and would have been miserable if it was actually full of people, but it was late enough that it was pretty dead. Good taste, but it was forgettable. Not worth going out of the way for. If I lived nearby, I'd probably return once to try it again.
(3)John B.
Really good pizza. The cheese was just right. This pizza joint has thin crust. This little hole in the wall eatery is 5 times better than the so-called "Best Pizza & Brew" on Mira Mesa. Maybe it's because the had a hot pepperoni pizza they just pulled out of the oven. Maybe it's because they served Red Trolley Karl Strauss. Maybe it's because there was a college football game on the restaurant's one TV. Maybe all of the above. Maybe you should try it and see for yourself! Wait...no more maybe's...I definitely recommend this pizza place.
(4)Mel J.
The crust was great, but overall my large pizza at Pauly's pizza joint was just ok. I usually love leftover pizza heated in the oven, but Pauly's pizza is still sitting in my frig for over a week as nobody was inspired to eat the leftovers. I chose my own toppings: pepperoni, garlic, onion, and mushrooms, with tomato sauce and cheese on a large pizza. The thin crust cooks perfectly in a short time, but it wasn't long enough to make the edges of the pepperoni crisp up. There was also too much garlic for me, so next time I'd skip the garlic and the pepperoni. Pauly's partner cooked my pizza on a busy night when they were cranking out a ton of take-out orders. Pauly's doesn't have enough atmosphere for dining in, although they do have a few tables. My large pizza was over $20 which is rather pricey. The small staff is friendly and helpful. PAULY to the RESCUE!!! During my visit I was serenaded by 5 crying, wailing, and squawking small children sitting with their patient but overwhelmed father. Pauly appeared after a few minutes and entertained the kids by tossing pizza dough into the air. The kids stopped crying and their little mouths hung open in awe as they watched the twirling dough. If I'm in the area I'd stop by Pauly's again to try a pizza with cheese tomato sauce and oregano and basil. I think it would be great on the thin crust. But overall I prefer the pizza at Filippi's, especially the Margarita pizza at Filippi's. it's been a while since I visited Volteros pizza on balboa but I have enjoyed them in the past as well. I grew up on east coast pizza at little Italian neighborhood joints. Pauly's is ok but doesn't recreate the pies in my memories. In fact when I revisit the east coast, I find Italian food in general is better on the east coast than west coast Italian food. Jersey still has some wonderful little neighborhood Italian eateries. (-; Italy is another story. Rome has amazing Italian food and it's quite different from USA Italian food. Still searching for the perfect slice...

Great pizza! They even have stromboli :)
(4)Brandi R.
Our shop just opened in October, ever since we moved in we have always been trying to discover what is good for lunch in Miramar. I ran across Pauly's the first week we opened and ever since then I always order pizza once a week for my guys here at Independent Motorcars. The owner is so nice and always warm and welcoming when he delivers our pizza. They have even got to the point of knowing my orders when I call them. I totally encourage you to try their food, great customer service along with great pizza!! Thank you Pauly's Pizza Joint. They even deliver for FREE!!
(5)Donna E.
I an giving the Pauly's Pizza Joint 5 out of 5 as it has impressed me much with its all services and the products, I mean with their Pizzas. They are excellent with their performances. They have groomed themselves from last couple of months. I tried it for the first time two or three months ago but I didn't liked the taste and the services were also not good. And I wanna share with you that when I went there last week It has surprisingly changed with all of the respects. I was not sure that It has changed, then I tried for another time, It was as good as were. I was very happy that they have groomed themselves and the Pizza Joint is doing something good. I am satisfied with their tastes and the services. They are also fair with their rates. I am also planning to go there tomorrow.
(5)Ling L.
Pretty good, hole in the wall kinda place. Definitely has that NYC feeling or maybe Brooklyn. It's decently priced as well. BIG ASS TV they have in there lol and they're pretty cool if you wanna watch what you want as long as it's child friendly.
(4)Jeff L.
This is one of the best pizza places near my work! I went there this afternoon and got a barbeque chicken pizza and supremo pizza. First off, I love the thin crust. It reminds me of when I was in school and used to go get pizza and fold it in half as I was eating it. The ingredients on the pizzas are so fresh that the flavor is jumping off the slice. One thing you will be sure to find when you stop in is a wide variety of pizzas. There must have been 12 different pies to choose from, so there is always something for everyone. The service is quick and everyone is friendly, which is a great compliment to the reasonable prices. I got 4 slices and a drink for $11, which is pretty good considering the size of the slices. All in all, it doesn't get much better than this! I'm a fan. Bonus points if you're a Jets or Yankees fan as the owner is as well!!!
(5)Raean P.
Pretty good pizza! First time we went, we just did the 2 slices and a drink. This place is really similar to Luigi's in Bankers hill. Had a pepperoni slice and a spinach and ricotta. They were really good. The next time we went, we ordered the Christmas pizza, added bacon, and had ricotta instead of feta. It was amazing. The crust is really thin, so if that's not your style, you could ask if they could do a pan style but Idk if they do that. Parking is not bad at all. There's also a liquor store next door so you can pick up a pizza and grab beers to take home while you wait (only took ours 10-15 minutes). Overall - great place. We've already been back. :)
(4)Mister R.
I used to love eating here. The pizza was really good. Notice the word "was" the last few times the flies in the display case out numbered the customers. And as we was picking out which slices we wanted the flies kept landing on the pizza slices. Disgusting!!! The workers said "sorry, it just gets so hot because the oven we have to open the doors" well they should get the A/C fixed so they don't have flies on all the food!!! I doubt I will be back unless they get rid of the flies!!
(1)Justin C.
I want to start off by saying don't get the calzone. It was fairly disappointing. The only reason I won't give them 5 stars :( With that out of the way I would totally say get their pizzas. If you want a crunchy thin crust pizza with a lot of toppings and flavor come to Pauly's. They have a good deal for two huge slices and getting a whole "pie" is well worth it. Feeds me and my girlfriend with usually two or three huge slices left over. They are really friendly and let you mix your pizzas as well if you want to get a half veggie or half mona vi ( our favorite) you can do that. Definitely worth trying and I would recommend you all to give it a try. Call ahead if you don't want to wait too long! :) Happy Eating!
(4)Erika M.
Delicious thin crust, New York style pizza! I've tried the supreme, pesto chicken, and chicken bacon ranch, and loved every one. I definitely recommend Pauly's!
(5)Miss Vanessa T.
I always order the Spinage a Trois pizza...it is so very good! I even love the name :D After dating someone from the East Coast for a while, I developed an appreciation for thin crust pizza. Pauly's has been my favorite so far. It's fresh, the ingredients are yummy, and the service is friendly. The only [sort of] annoying thing is that they are closed on Sundays. That is a shame during football season :P This little pizza joint definitely deserves a visit if you are close by.
(5)Surya M.
Amazing authentic new york style pizza. Customer service is spot on and the vibe is casual. Will definitely be coming back.
(5)Sandy D.
I ordered a Pauly Walnuts pizza pie today to be delivered at our work place on Arjons Drive. The guy who took my order over the phone was very pleasant and considering how busy/noisy it was in the background he was not distracted at all. The delivery was right on time and to our surprise it was the owner himself! It was great to meet such a enthusiastic person who took pride in meeting his customers! What really hit home was that it was raining today, so as a owner he could easily sent out a employee instead to do deliveries. Last but not least the pizza was GOOD, just the right amount of toppings and sauce, usually I'm one who picks off the toppings and just eats the crust/sauce but not today! Can't wait to try other menu items now. The price was right too, especially for delivery!
(5)Takeo T.
Awesome. There's some good services were the staff seem friendly, and there's great service where the staff is actually friendly. Pauly's is the latter. We rolled in on a Friday night kneading a slice of pizza to eat. The guy working the oven was very explanatory with all the different types of pizzas, and the lady behind the register gave us a tip saying that if we ordered a couple of slices more, the entire price would be cheaper because she can charge us for an entire pizza. Later, after she brought out the pizza, she kept telling us that if it wasn't warm enough (which it was), just tell her and she'll heat it back up. When we wanted to get a box to take some slices home, she imparted her pizza reheating wisdom with us. Very friendly, and seemed genuinely happy to be working there. Like some other people have said, it's a small place tucked away in a food plaza behind a Carl's Jr. Seating is limited and the soda machine is behind the cash register, so you have to go back to the employee area to get a drink... it's a tad awkward at first only because it's not something you do everyday, but the employees don't mind it one bit. If you're in the area, try it out. They have a lot of different varieties, and they're all delicious!
(5)Gregg R.
Hey people Listen here, I am from NEW York and if you want Great Pizza, This place is a must. Great crust, Great sauce, and Great Cheese.
(5)Trang L.
So I've been craving pizza over the weekend but didn't get any.. so today during work I was determined to get pizza. And I'm not talking about pizza hut- none of the franchise stuff.. I wanted a kind of light pizza. Now I know you're thinking.. pizza isn't light!... Well it is if it has a super thin crust! Anywho.. I stumbled upon Pauly's Pizza Joint on yelp and they had good ratings. It's not too far from where I work and they sell it by the slice. I walked it and its a cute little joint! They have all kinda of pizzas displayed and they look good! I just ordered the pepperoni pizza just because that's what I was craving. I was skeptical at first because the pizza looked too thin! Too thin to the point that the pizza kinda looked dry and didn't have any sauce... Boy was I wrong! First bite- there was surprisingly a good amount of sauce! The pizza crust itself was thin and had a good crunch to them- very good! I'm definitely going to add this to my lunch place list.
(4)Katie B.
This place is AWESOME. My friends and I went rock climbing in the area a few weeks ago in an attempt to be healthy. We then got sidetracked by this place and the healthiness of the night flew out the window. First of all, the customer service is awesome. Eric was awesome and so friendly and so nice. All four of us loved him. The pizza is priced fairly and delicious. If I could come here everyday, I would. Try it out... you won't be disappointed.
(5)Merrianne S.
Fantastic! I was in La Jolla for business and had no idea where to go for lunch but I hit the jackpot here. Just $6 for two huge slices of pizza and a drink!
(5)Kim C.
DELICIOUS! We were in SD from LA for the weekend, and got the craving for some pizza for dinner. As usual, I consulted my Yelp app on my phone, and Pauly's was the first business to pop up. We brought home a 18" pizza, half pepperoni and half bbq chicken. Normally I don't like thin crust very much, but this pizza was so delicious.. The cheese, the pepperoni, and the sauce all perfectly suited the thin crust! I didn't have any of the bbq chicken, but supposedly it was even better. Try this place out! You won't be disappointed!
(4)Richie W.
Pretty good New York style pizza. If I didn't hate this parking lot so much I'd frequent it more. I haven't ordered any fresh made pies yet. Mostly just what they have in the very large display case for lunch (which they reheat in the oven). Their pizza case is about 2 times larger than Knockout Pizza (who I consider their competition when fighting for Mira Mesa/Miramar work traffic) and their prices are about the same. Maybe the slices were a tiny bit larger. Since I went with a few coworkers, they did let us just pick out 8 slices and pay the price of a pie, which cut down the price per slice from $2.50 to $2. I don't remember this place existing. I've come here for the Roberto's and the Falafel place, but never noticed the pizza place until now.
(4)Kyle L.
Incredible pizza, the flavor is unreal, if you love Buffalo Chicken pizza or any for that matter, this is the king of them all. Its a little pricey, about $20ish a pie, but they make up for that in flavor and size, they're huge! Best pizza place in San Diego IMO.
(5)John G.
First visit to Pauly 's tonight and had an excellent pie. We got the Pauly Walnuts, which had pepperoni, olives, peppers, onion and sausage. Thin crisp crust and a very tasty sauce. Got to meet Pauly while we were there and was a gracious host. The whole crew in there was very nice. Almost everyone who came in while we were there was regulars and it's obvious that they are a popular place. Highly recommend dropping by for a slice, or whole pie.
(4)Luisa J.
In town so we ordered delivery. It was about a 45 minute wait on delivery. Pizza arrived warm at best. Thin crust was ok but the sauce had a bit of an aftertaste. Their garden salad was pretty good. Overall average dinner.
(2)Michael C.
Hands down THE BEST New York style pizza within the Mira Mesa area. I come here quite often for lunch since my office is only right down the block. Nice crispy and crunchy thin NY style crust. I tend to choose the slices/pies with the creamy homemade ricotta cheese. The ricotta cheese has a soft touch of sweetness that helps round out the saltiness of the toppings and mozzarella cheese. Usually paired with mushrooms and spinach the flavors are well balanced and not too greasy. Buffalo chicken is also one of my favorites here, a perfect ratio of spicy buffalo sauce to ranch with a generous amount of savory chicken (if you prefer more of once sauce, don't be shy to ask for more on the side; they are more than happy to accommodate you.) Great pizza and friendly service. I'll be back for more of that crunchy crust and sweet ricotta.
(5)Chrissie O.
My brother that lives in Japan actually recommended this place to me while he was visiting. I try to avoid this complex because the parking is terrible. I need two spots for my car please! Well now I have a reason to keep coming.. for the pizza!! The first time we had a few different pieces. My favorites were the chicken feta pizza and this meat feta pizza. The feta cheese was delicious on top! Pizza is made on a thin crust. Everyone that I have spoken to there has been really nice and friendly to me. It's a good spot for lunch. Definitely will be a regular here!
(5)Min C.
Like everyone else already mentioned, their pizza is great. I just have to say though, that as tasty as their pizza is, a big part of why I love this place is that they place their toppings super neatly and super evenly around the entire pizza. Usually with other pizzas, I have to move toppings around because I want a bit of topping with every bite (I'm a little OCD). But that leads to dislodging the topping from the cheese that was holding it in place, which leads to potential topping loss, which is sad. So thank you Pauly's for placing your toppings so neatly!!! I know it takes a little longer, but it's really really appreciated!
(5)Craig S.
This place offers delicious pizza and the price isn't bad for the slices size. The place is clean and has a great theme. I'm coming back here every time I had a craving for pizza.
(5)Truda P.
Called in my order for pickup and it was ready on time. Used to frequent this place when it was under a different name and management but the pizza here is still awesome. A great New York style thin crust with just enough chew, not overly crunchy but crispy crust. The sauce has a great flavor, the sprinkle of oregano on the top adding the perfect finish to a good old greasy slice of pie.
(5)Steven G.
My wife and I's go to spot for pizza. Have never been let down. Fresh ingredients, quality product, wonderful owner...great pizza.
(5)Nicole F.
so. so. so. so. so. good.
(5)Cuong T.
Always a top notch pizza by the slice. 6 dollars gets you 2 and a drink which is much more affordable and satisfying than work's cafeteria. The guys and girls there are always pleasant to deal with.
(5)Tanakorn T.
Good solid pizza. Let me tell you what I know about this place: Pauly seems to have been making pizza for a while. While hailing from NY, he somehow made it all the way here to San Diego. You walk in and you see him on the walls, tossing dough for a New York style thin sliced pizza. Then you go up to the counter and you SEE him. There is a selection of pizzas and he will tailor it to your tastes for what you want. Food: Good and solid. The pizza is solid. I would say that it is the best New York style pizza I've had in San Diego. There is a good amount of toppings, but not overwhelming. It was good. Atmosphere: I went at night and it was kind of quiet, but it seemed like a small pizza place that I would go to once in a while with friends and watch a football game. If I had money to eat out more often, maybe... Service: SUPER. They were really nice and Pauly let my GF and I customize our pizza. It was a nice experience. Would I come here again? When im craving NY style pizza, sure.
(4)G K.
Excellent Pizza. Fast Service. Self Serve sodas. NY Style pizza. 2 Slices and a drink for $6. Can't beat it.
(5)Gary D.
Brought my Son's basketball team here during a weekend tournament. Had the opportunity to taste 3 different pizzas and they were all amazing, especially the Christmas Pizza. A great little "Hole-in-the-Wall!"

I can't believe it took me this long to discover this place!! We ordered a small cheese and large Pepperoni for delivery and it was delicious!! I love the sauce and it tastes homemade. We also got their chocolate mousse pie for dessert. Absolutely awesome! Definitely returning.

my new favorite pizza in town. ordered the pepperoni the bottom crust was crunchy while the cheese was gooey.

*****(This is a review for the customer service.... Unfortunately we never received our pizza so I'm unable to review it)***** My coworkers and I decided to order a pizza (delivery) for lunch since we've been busy lately. We saw the reviews for this place and were so excited to try it! My coworker called and placed the order at 11:30 am. The guy on the phone was frantic and said he wasn't sure if they could take another order. He took her name and the address and then said that he would put the address in his pocket? We didn't think much of it After an hour and no pizza, we called again. They said it was coming At 1:00, still no pizza. We called again and they said it was coming. We called again at 1:30 and they said they had no record of us. They said that it was her fault for not calling to follow up. She explained that she had a few times and he kept saying 'well, we're busy.' But NO APOLOGY and kept blaming my coworker. Unbelievable. We then said that we'd like to cancel our order and they kept trying to convince us to keep the order! We said that we weren't interested in paying for a pizza that was 2 hours late, and they kept saying that we should have followed up. We truly could not believe it. What happened to customer service? I will never try this place again. I don't care how good the pizza may be

I've lived in Mira Mesa for over a year now and whenever I had a pizza hankering I would have to make a 20+ min drive (sometimes in traffic) to La Jolla for Regents Pizza. That is, UNTIL I discovered Pauly's. I've never actually been there in person, but the pizzas that I've had delivered have been phenomenal. Thin crust, gooey cheese, just the perfect balance of zesty and sweet. I usually have to fight my boyfriend for the last slice. Some personal favorites include Pauly Walnuts, Christmas Pie, and the Veggie. Really though... I don't think you could go wrong with any of the choices on the menu. Pauly knows his stuff. Some previous reviewers have been complaining about the service. This does have some merit... on occasion my stomach had to growl a couple minutes longer because some punk kid couldn't find my apartment unit once his iPhone wouldn't navigate him past the main entrance. But in my opinion, the QUALITY of the food makes up for most service issues, 100 times over. It's undeniably hard for small businesses (especially those that are understaffed) to make it, especially with picky Yelpers highlighting every slip-up. Hopefully, if Pauly's stays around long enough to perfect their management and distribution procedure, we're likely to get more reliable and consistent service. But I think that if there's one thing that we can agree on, it's that the citizens of Mira Mesa deserve to have a darn good pizza joint and our best hope lies in Pauly's. Let's make sure this place gets the recognition it deserves. Can I get a HUZZAH!?!?!

Five stars says it all! Great pies and great Peeps!
(5)Skip W.
Being from Northern NJ, I'm a pizza snob and have grown to expect disappointment from west coast pizza. As soon as I walked in Pauly's and saw the NJ license plates on the wall, posters of "The Fonz", and heard the Jersey accents, i knew i was in for a treat. The thin crust and ingredients took me right back home to Jersey. Best pizza I've had west of the Mississippi. I'll be back when i need a reminder of where I'm from! Welcoming and friendly staff makes you feel right at home.

i'm so glad that i have a legit pizza joint by my work place. It's a week day indulgence sandwiched between the daily drudgery. This place is always busy...because it's always tasty. A favorite pie of mine has got to be the buffalo chicken. Fantastical. $6 for 2 slices and a soda - how could you go wrong??
(4)Mark M.
Best thin crust I have in San Diego. Now, this is NOT saying much... So, maybe I should say: Very good pizza... ...EXCELLENT pizza for San Diego. Parking lot sucks and it is off Miramar Road...which I am certain must be a certified death trap as far as streets go...but it is worth a try if you are in the area for some reason....and the only reasons could be you are (a) lost or (b) buying furniture. Either reason leads to hunger, so I say grab a slice!
(5)David D.
Not bad. I should have ordered fresh because the re heated pizza crust was too crunchy.
(3)Vanessa B.
I like Paulys because I can order a slice or a mixed pizza. Not the best but a good pizza. The other night I ordered for delivery, and it took them forever to deliver. I already started to lose my appetite, I wish I was more hungry when I got the pizza, because it looked really nice. I would have given them more stars but their delivery messed up my appetite. I think next time I'll just go in and get it myself. It's faster and I'm sure I'll be happier with the outcome. Delivery is always a pain in a butt.
(4)Chris N.
Great spot in an unassuming strip mall. Pizza (if you eat by the slice) gets warmed up in the oven and has excellent crust texture. They also have a decent beer selection (bottles) and the prices are reasonable. If I'm in the area I'll be back!
(5)Christina H.
First off, this place is hard to find if you're not sure where to look. if you're driving down Miramar, just look for the Taste of India sign, because this place is located right next to it. I'm not a big fan of quick slice pizzas, so i called ahead and ordered one of their specalities, the Mikey Show. By the time I got there to pick up the pizza (I was heading over from UCSD), it was ready so it was nice not really having to wait, since it was 9 at night and I was starving. The pizza was saucy enough, without being too cheesy, which is exactly how I like it. The thin crust was not burnt either so that's thats a plus. Overall, the pizza was pretty delicious, but I definitely prefer Regents Pizzeria. The customer service was excellent as well. When they realized that we were going to dine in, one of the servers brought over plates for us and spatula-type thing for us to pick up the slices.
(3)GMoney D.
I work in the Miramar area and there aren't too many good places to eat, unless you know where to look. Pauly's Pizza joint it is one of the few hidden gems in the Miramar area. I love this place, mostly because of the delicious pizza by the slice and sandwiches. Place is pretty chill and the guys that work there are always cool and helpful. They don't serve beer, but there is a liquor store next door, so if you want to brown bag a tall boy the guys there don't really mind. If you work in the area or are just passing through go check them out!

Looking for a new pizza place I naturally turned to Yelp to check for highly rated pizza joints in my area. Pauly's had good reviews so I decided to check it out. Location - hard to find, especially at night as you cannot see it from the road and restaurant sign is not lit as it is just a banner hanging in front. The shopping center sign on the road simply lists "Pizzeria". So just turn onto Commerce and you will be ok. Service - we called ahead for a single large pie with onion to go and they said 30-40 minutes wait time. A little long, but ok. We got there and they said another 20 minutes. Literally one hour from ordering to when it was ready. The staff was very friendly. Since I had to wait so long they were very nice and gave a me small discount on the pizza. That is a plus 1 in my book. Food - Pizza was better than most other pizza we have had in San Diego. (One of our fav places is Pernicano's in PB.) It was a little dry however - could have used a little more sauce and cheese which would have improved the overall taste. It had a nice texture crust. WhatI liked about it was that it was not all floppy and mushy and soft and you could actually pick up a slice, fold it in half and eat it without a knife and fork! JFYI in case anyone is wondering : Whitecaps pizza is pizza with no tomato sauce. As good as a NY pizza? Not in my book. Better than almost everything else in SD? Definitely. Would I go back? You betcha!
(4)Mitzi B.
Ordered delivery for a client meeting - two medium pizzas and a salad for 6. Eric answered the phone and was professional, friendly, polite and knew his stuff, making suggestions when I needed them. And he asked if we needed plates and silverware, which I particularly appreciate because we prefer to use our own dishes to cut down on waste. Rafe delivered promptly and was professional, polite, friendly and also neatly dressed (not only important because I work in a law firm - it shows self-respect and respect of customers). The salad was wrapped in two BIG sheets of cellophane - nothing was out of place! Pauly's included servings of every salad dressing. The pizza was hot and the clients really enjoyed it. I will definitely be using Pauly's again. I wish clients requested pizza more frequently!!!
(4)April R.
I don't care how good their food is I will never order from here again. It's been over an hour and a half and still no pizza!
(1)rebecca d.
Have tried all kinds of Pizza. Im from ChiTown and this is far the best thin crust pizza in SD!
(5)Jennifer T.
AMAZING New York-style pizza! My boyfriend's and my eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We ordered two 18" pies for the two of us: one half Mona Vi and half Chicken Pesty, and the other pepperoni. The flavors were fresh and delicious and the pizza crust was a perfect crispiness. The Mona Vi is a white pizza with mushroom, artichoke, and spinach; this was my favorite, but the chicken pesty was a close second. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the classic pepperoni pizza. The leftovers made for awesome lunches for work the next couple days. This is a great place to stop by for lunch if you work in the Miramar/UTC/La Jolla area. They also cater and deliver. Overall, this is an awesome pizza joint with a wide variety of specialty pizzas definitely worthy of repeat visits!
(5)Shing C.
My friend has been talking about this awesome pizza place and finally took me here today. Needless to say, I was impressed by not only their pizza but their customer service. It was closed when we arrived but Pauly was there having lunch with some of his associates. The kitchen was closed but there was some pie he made earlier for his meeting and was nice to share some with my friend and I. We each got 1 slice of meatball and 1 slice of cheese - both were east coast style thin crust. It hit the spot. Great place for lunch if you work near the area. I would say it is about the same quality as regents pizza
(5)Clay D.
If you are looking for the best thin crust pizza in San Diego, Pauly's Pizza Joint is the place for you. You get a variety of pizza to choose from, and the ambiance of Pauly's is fantastic. I talk with Pauly and the guys on a regular basis and enjoy the great company while eating great pizza. Whether you're from the Bronx and want your pepperoni and cheese or you're from California and want chicken ranch pizza, this place has a wide variety of pizza to enjoy at an affordable price during your lunch break or on the weekend when hanging out with your friends. This is a one of a kind place with one of a kind people who work hard to give you the best pizza possible.
(5)David E.
This pizza is consistently the best pizza I have had in San Diego. Pauly is a cool guy and the staff just cares. You can tell this place is run with a mind for quality.
(5)Verena K.
They let us (a party of 8) order and dine-in about 10 minutes before closing, which was super nice of them. The waitress/pizza connoisseur helped us decide what to order and we ended up with 2 large half & half thin crust NY style pies. We tried the meat lovers, combo, pesto chicken, and chipotle chicken pies. My favorite was the pesto, but they were all delicious! I'm glad we found this hole-in-the-wall pizza joint from Yelping a nearby Italian place that was still open past 9pm. And seriously, not enough can be said about the waitress and her AMAZING service. I definitely recommend giving this place a try!!
(5)Therealladyof L.
Buying a slice is a first for me.. I've always imagined slices to be 'unfresh'. They reheat it for me and it was crispy and yummy
(4)Todd K.
What can I say... damn fine, freshly made to order pies by Pauly and the crew just the way you want it. Crust is perfectly hand tossed and the freshest ingredients make for an amazing New York style pie. Want a slice? Pauly has a lot of different delicious pies ready to go, too. This is the only place my family and I go for pizza. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed!
(5)Dietrich P.
I'm from New York, this is the closest you get out here. Delicious pizza!! Delivery is quick and friendly and the variety is pretty good and isn't too pricey.
(5)Jeffrey Y.
I was feeling like pizza one night and found this place on yelp. I ordered the Pauly Walnuts pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, bacon, onions, and peppers. It didn't disappoint. The people seemed friendly. If you like thin crust pizza, this place is worth a visit. I'll definitely come back again to try the other pies.
(5)Sara S.
Stopped in here after a business meeting with my boss. Absolutely love and great price. For $6 you get 2 slices pizza and a drink. Slices are big and they had several different toppings to choose from. Got BBQ chicken pizza, just was missing some Pineapple to make it truly amazing and then got pesto Chicken. I have to say the pesto chicken was tasty!! The crust had good flavor. Staff was super friendly. They have a large tv in the dining area to watch a game.
(5)Mel B.
Best Pizza Ever!!!!! Or so my 8 year old says. Me? I'd say it's definitely some of the best pizza I've had. Chicken pesto...delicious!!! I guess this place was recently taken over by someone new, and while I don't know him very well, I can say he makes a damn good pie. He's cool as hell too!!! We took a few slices home, and I will say that they are better eaten at the place itself. Reheating at home can make the slices a bit tough. Otherwise, if you like Bronx, you'll like this place, but more since you don't have to pay for parking or drive all the way to Hillcrest.
(4)Stuart S.
This pizza is extremely tasty! I don't think anyone could fairly give this less than a 4 just on the quality of the pizza itself. Why didn't I give it a 5? The sauce. Everything on the pizza was extraordinary except for the sauce, so I was taken back a bit. I picked up the pizza myself, and it was a bit cool by the time I got to where we were eating it. That may of altered the flavor a bit, so I will have to try this place again when I can dine in. If the sauce tastes better to me while it is still piping hot (or at least much warmer) I will happily update my rating to a 5. The place looked very clean inside, and I will definitely return. Enjoy!
(4)Chris W.
This is the best pizza joint we've found in San Diego! So glad we were yelping around and stumbled upon this little place. Love the spinage a trois. We've never had ricotta cheese this good on a pizza. They are very generous with the toppings too. HUGE chunks of ricotta cheese everywhere. If you love cheese, this pizza is a must-get! Also love the Christmas pie. The fetta, the bacon...need I say more? Seriously, Pauly, what do you put in the water? The pizza crust is amazing, and the pizza as a whole is just to die for. Rain or shine, we will always pick Paulys to be our go-to pizza place.
(5)Scott S.
Love this place. I have never been disappointed with a slice or a pie from here. Pauly deserves all the praise. Between here and Luigi's in North Park, I have found my go-to spots for pizza in SD.
(4)semyon k.
I am taking away a star for the last two deliveries. The pizza is still excellent. Two weeks ago, the pizza was delivered 30 minutes late and it was the wrong pizza. It took another hour to receive the correct pizza. The driver apologized put we still payed full price. Ordered again tonight and, once again, 30 minutes late. I may try one more time, but then I am going to explore other options. Like I said, the pizza is great, but I value good service.
(4)Brian P.
We are always searching out new pizza joints, particularly our favorite NY style thin crust pies. This hidden gem in Mira Mar definitely did not disappoint. In fact, Pauly's now ranks as one of our favorite pizza joints in San Diego. We ordered the White Cap pizza with extra garlic & red sauce on 1/2 of pie. The crust was thin & cooked perfectly! The edges were crisp but not burnt. The flavors in the crust, cheese & sauce popped. Pauly's clearly places a lot of emphasis on quality ingredients & attention to details. The service was excellent as well. The staff was friendly and very helpful and the owner, Paul, even took the time to visit our table, introduce himself & personally thank us for coming. We really enjoyed talking with him & couldn't have asked for a better experience. We definitely look forward to coming back for more very soon!!!
(5)Adrianna M.
Love Love this place. I never thought I would find such a great pizza place in Mira Mesa. The pizza and the service is alway's great.
(4)Brinda J.
Best NY style pizza I've had in a long time!!!! This place brought back tons of memories from NJ when I was a kid....best place for the East Coast transplants.
(5)David M.
This place is awesome! Their pizza is hands down some of the best I have had since moving to San Diego.
(5)Leah L.
This review is on customer service. The food was good.Prices are good. Would have come back if it wasn't for the service. I made this account because I'm appalled at quality of service I received for a place with such good reviews. They seem like nice sincere people who honestly just forgot about my order and filled other's orders before mine. NOT ok, especially during the lunch hour when I'm on a time crunch. Don't plan on going back. Pauly's is down the street from my workplace. A couple of co-workers and I decided to give it a try based on the great reviews we read. We come in around 11:20am, our lunch is an hour and ends at 12pm. The place was empty except for a family of 3 in line before us and they ordered pizza slices. My 2 co-workers and I order strombolis and a spinach roll and a slice of pizza. We're told the stromboli and spinach roll will take about 20 mins. We're expecting it at 11:45 or so. Prices were good. Restaurant was clean and seemed well-maintained. We sit down and the place becomes packed with people ordering pizzas. I notice a group that came after us gets their slices before I do. I ask the guy who took my order about my slice and he tells me that he gave my slice away to someone else..... ok...... Fine... I'll choose another slice. I'm definitely irked that he gave it away to someone else but it was busy, orders might have gotten mixed up. Whatever, it's a one time thing, no big deal. He comes over and gives me a slice of pizza and says he's very sorry and tells me I can get a free drink, choose anything in the fridge. Ok, he's being nice and trying to make up for it. I forgive him. The slice is pretty good and I'm happy that the bottom is crispy. At 11:45am, my co worker gets up to ask him about the strombolis/spinach rolls and he tells us that he JUST put them in the oven, they'll be ready in about 8 mins. We had been sitting around for 20 mins, watching everyone around us eat their slices of pizza and leave. 15 mins later, the spinach roll comes out and he says the strombolis are going to be about 5 more mins. It's 12:05pm and our lunch hour was over 5 mins ago. We come back to work late at around 12:11pm. We're lucky that our boss is ok with going over time a little bit but we should NOT have had to wait 45 mins for 3 pizza rolls!! The entire lunch hour my co-workers were starving, waiting for the strombolis. I was lucky that I ended up getting anything to eat during lunch. We had to eat at our desks and the calzone like stromboli/spinach roll became soggy because we had to take them togo. What I learned: DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING BUT A PIZZA SLICE WHEN GOING AROUND LUNCH HOUR. IF you decide to order anything OTHER than pizza around lunch hour, CALL IT IN.
(2)Heather R.
Pretty amazing pizza. Wow. Really good texture..perfect crunch. If you like NY style pizza then GO NOW! Wish they had a North County Location. Two guys working were really friendly. Well worth the drive from the 15 :) Thank you!!
(5)Chris C.
Seriously, the best pizza I've had in San Diego. I was in the Miramar area and was hungry and stopped by here because yelp suggested it. BEST SUGGESTION EVER. I go crazy for pizza and this is the best I've had other than some that I've had in Boston. The 2 slices and a drink special for $6 is perfect. Nice place to eat with a decent amount of seats. A tv playing sports or a movie. A friend ordered their sandwich and he said it was freaking amazing too. It may be a bit of a drive for me coming from Chula Vista, but totally worth it.
(5)Dan S.
Found this place here on yelp. I work nearby and was wondering what is good that I haven't experienced. Yes, the pizza is Good. Ingredients are the real deal. Pauly's beats the crap out of the quality and value of costco pizza. There was something like nine pizza's in the window to choose from and looking at the menu there is quite a bit (of other things) for me to come back for to try, too. Better than Lefty's (IMHO). Yes, parking is bad, but workable. I plan on returning. Good food and service deserves a good rating. Five stars might be a little too much, but four a little too low?
(4)George P.
In my unending quest for satisfying my children's & my love for all things pizza, we tried Pauly's out. After showing my wife and daughters the pictures on yelp; my girls were smitten and dying to see the Angry Birds Pie. Alas, they were disappointed that that was a one time deal for a party and there was not one in the case when we arrived. But, we chose a number of slices to take home and were engaged in conversation with Pauly about pizza, business, locations and just all in all good conversation as we awaited our slices to be warmed back up. Once we were home, we were happy as all get out with the quality and taste. Crispy crust with great flavors. All in all great NY style slices and we will be calling on Pauly's for our next Pizza night. Maybe we can get an Angry birds pie of our own. Sláinte!
(5)J M.
Paulie really made us all feel right at home with his creamy garlic White sauced pie. It was beyond delicious and I yearned for more. They made me feel like part of the family as each pie here is truely made with love.
(4)Alysha L.
Excellent pizza at a cheap price. I especially love the thin crust they use here
(5)Alan T.
For my 3rd visit, I called in for a pick-up order. Ordered a pizza that was 1/2 Mona Vi and 1/2 Chicken Pesto. I was out running errands when I put in my order and was informed it would take 45 min (I called during lunchtime). That pizza smelled heavenly as I drove it home to share with the fam! They loved it! I have a new meatless favorite in the Mona vi (whitecaps, spinach, mushrooms, and artichokes)! Great customer service in handling a slight glitch with my order. Great service, great food, keep up the good work, Pauly!
(4)Sanjay D.
Petsy pizza was good. Open late. Nice service
(5)Gary P.
As you know I hardly leave 5 Star ratings but my search for a Killer pie in San Diego has ended. I was recommended by a friend of mine to go here knowing Im an East coast transplant and man I am happy he did. My sausage/jalapeno pie ready in 20 which I drove 15 to get there and while waiting just a few minutes they handed me a piece of cheese to try out. Guys keep the great work up over there and don't change anything , you've delivered something special out here which is Lacking big time " True NY Pizza " !! Friendly enviroment, great people and like I said earlier a Killer Pie. Thanks again, see ya soon \m/
(5)Kim A.
After calling our regular place to order pizza and finding out they were closed, I went to Yelp to find another place. This one looked great and we were not disappointed. The crust is excellent and the toppings were fresh and plentiful. The customer service was also excellent. This will be our new go to place. It is a little out of the way for us, but worth it!!
(5)Jeff C.
I went to Pauly's Pizza Joint with my daughter on a Wednesday evening. I asked her what rating I should give them and she didn't hesitate to say "5 stars". The staff (all 3 of them) were exceptionally friendly. Pauly introduced himself to us and explained the context of certain photos on the wall. Its clear that he is very serious about good pizza. And the pizza is good -- well, its not good, its excellent. Crust is very thin and truly resembles what you'd find in Italy. I've spent much more time in Italy than on the East Coast, so I couldn't say if it resembles East Coast Pizza! There is a limited amount of seating and a limited choice of beverages. But there is a liquor store next door and Pauly suggested we go there for a milk or juice. This worked out really well. The experience was great, and at this point I believe we have finally found the best pizza place in the Mira Mesa/Miramar area. I should add, too, that the prices are more than reasonable. With coupon we got a delicious 18" pizza for 15 dollars, which is almost absurd.
(5)Cayla D.
Stopped in to try something new and was not disappointed. The food was very tasteful and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good New York style pizza.
(5)Rob W.
Is it possible to wax nostalgic about someplace you just ate at? If it hasn't happened to you yet, this place'll give you a run for your money. It is, WITHOUT QUESTION, the best NY style pizza in San Diego. And to top it all off, the owners, the staff, EVERYONE here is absurdly nice. Drinks are self service---you'll have to walk behind the counter to get your soda fix. Be prepared to feel really weird about that. If you're stuck trying to figure out what to order, the BBQ chicken pizza is phenomenal.
(5)Tom T.
If I were to choose pizza as my final meal, it'd be Pauly's Pizza.
(5)David C.
Pauly's Pizza is quite a find off the beaten track. With a great crust it is right up there with Bronx. It didn't do quite as well as Bronx in the leftover test but no one ever has.
(4)Stephanie B.
I am from out of town, here for work and wasn't too motivated to venture more than a few miles from my hotel. I searched pizza joints on Yelp too see what I could find. I decided to give it a try based on the reviews. I called in a take-out order, it took me some extra time to find it, not being familiar with the area. Kind if a hole-in-the-wall joint, but that is usually where the best local food is! I ordered a calzone and a side salad, both were excellent. The calzone was big enough for two and was delicious! The staff was very friendly, plus the entire meal was about $10. I will come back for sure the next time I'm in town.
(5)L J.
Pauly's pizza is incredibly awesome! Such a hit at the office that we ordered twice in the last two weeks. All I have to say is the White Caps with artichoke is my fave! We have ordered the Chicken Pesty, Chipotle Chicken, and White Meat and all were delishous! Unfortunately, our first order here was an hour and a half late which made my review a 4 star instead of a 5. To compensate, the driver lessened the total and threw in sodas. Coworkers worked up an appetite. Thankfully the pizza was delivered and delivered in freshness and explosive taste! I'm a big fan of thin crust which also gives reason to Pauly's being legit! Its been compared to Bronx pizza in Hillcrest and I think that's an excellent compliment! Continue on with great product, good prices, and improve on customer service and Pauly's is on its way!
(4)Jacques L.
Had a funny experience while waiting for an oil change. I decided to go in and get a couple slices after seeing them on yelp. All is good and I get my two slices and decided to add some red pepper flakes, well after a couple vigorous shakes the cap falls off and my pizza is covered in chilli flakes. I bring it up to the counter and without hesitation he asked me what I had got and gets another couple slices going. As I am waiting for the slices to be ready he offers me a free drink for the inconvenience. The pizza itself was good, nice super thin pizza without heavy overbearing sauce. And the workers were having conversations with who I assume to be a regular and it felt like a family joint.
(5)Randy k.
Had a craving for a slice of pizza for lunch so off to my trusty Yelp! $6.00 buck for 2 slices and a drink.. well if it sucks its only $6.00 It was fantastic! I got pep and sausage slices .. WOW! thin, crisp, and perfect temperate. Ever been to a place that hats the slices to the temperature of the sun? These were perfect! I would have given 5 stars, but frankly the parking here is TERRIBLE! and i mean TERRIBLE. VERY small spaces, and lots of cars. Parking on the street is your best bet.
(4)Mary Jane R.
Hands down the best pizza place near home. All their pizzas are delicious you definitely gotta try their BBQ pizza.
(5)Michael L.
This place is hands down THE BEST quick slice pizza joint in San Diego. The staff is cool, the pricing is just right, and the spot is just ghetto enough that gives it that NYC credibility.
(5)Jerry M.
very good pizza place....highly recommend....
(4)Melissa B.
There's pizza and then there's Pauly's pizza. This guy is really all about his pizza and you can almost taste his passion. I usually come before lunch hour or take carry out because this place does fill up pretty quick. I have tried almost all of their pizzas and they are freaking delicious. I would recommend this place to all my friends.
(5)Kelly Y.
I like their $3.50 slice of pizza that comes with a drink for lunch. Very good cheesecake too!
(4)Joyce V.
Our doorbell rings in due time on a very hot San Diego afternoon. We check our thin crust pizza in the box to see that it was in fact what we ordered: a delicious half n' half of "Mona Vi" and "Pesty Chicken." The delivery man eagerly states with hands clasped together in front of him, "I'm VERY happy about this pizza. I think I did a really good job, and I hope you think so, too!" We start a brief conversation about finding his pizza place on Yelp and wanting to try them out. He later introduces himself, "I'm Paul!" We introduce ourselves similarly and shake hands. I pay him the amount due and then some. When closing the front door, it dawns on me that he's the guy in the Yelp pictures tossing pizza dough in the air. Did the owner just make our pizza and hand deliver it as well? While there may be bleak chance (owing to the popularity stars and positive reviews) that Pauly's Pizza Joint is understaffed, I really am just impressed with the charming, local touch of seeing the owner arrive at my front door with a genuine positivity about the pizza. And upon feasting, I highly recommend getting either the Mona Vi or Pesty Chicken. Both of them are delicious: very light in flavor yet still very tasty and filling compared to their red meat counterparts. The large pizza arrived hot with packets of red pepper flakes and cheese. And all the while, it felt that much more gratifying to enjoy each melting bite of my slice(s) knowing that someone had invested in my pizza with such a bright energy! So. Very. Satisfying. Very deserving of 5 stars. And certainly a brilliant idea to try out Pauly's Pizza Joint. And I recommend you do so, too!

Incredible deal for awesome pizza, 2 slices and a drink for $6. Are you kidding me? Friendly, clean. I'll be back!
(5)Parris B.
This place has a good New York pie. The pieces seem slightly larger than Knockout Pizza, and you can't beat the prices for a lunch special. I would love to see the dining room a little bit cleaner (and spacious), but overall, I dig this place.
(4)Don-Don M.
Service is very friendly. The Christmas pie is always great. Had an Angy Bird pizza delivered for my sons birthday party. It was perfect and delivered at the time as promised. Definitely my favorite pizza joint.
(5)Stacey D.
I would like to give 3.5 stars but we all know that's not possible. I thought the pizza was a solid thin crust pie but they WAY overdid the "wet toppings" and there were several soggy slices in my pizza. I ordered a half buffalo chicken and half bbq chicken. The non-soggy slices were very good, but there was way too much sauce on each piece. Maybe ask for light ranch or bbq sauce and you'd have a 4-4.5 star pizza.
(3)Matt D.
So I was I the mood for BBQ, but after going to Abbey's BBQ and getting price shock I decided to go elsewhere. I looked on yelp to see what was around and I see this place with 4.5 stars. I read some reviews and figured what the hell. It was around 2pm and there was a few people there. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the food and the staff was pretty cool too. I will defiantly return to try some other pie the next time I'm in San Diego.

What can I say about Pauly's Pizza Joint? How about, "It's the BEST DANG PIZZA I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME!" My Fiancee and I had the BBQ/Buffalo Half & Half Large Pizza. (She's a little bit Country, I'm a little bit Rock 'n' Roll...) Anyways, the BBQ was unlike any other pizza I've ever tasted. How can I describe it? It's like they took some chicken straight out of the BBQ grill and slapped it on pizza. How's that for description? Very saucy, moist, but most importantly, I felt guilt-free. (I like to watch my weight, but I love to indulge once in a while.) The Buffalo side, however is what truly blew the socks off my taste buds! Perfect blend of Buffalo sauce and ranch, I was truly in pizza heaven! If you're going to wear something nice and eat this pizza, WEAR A BIB! But then again, I've been told that if it doesn't get all over the place... Down-side? Parking in this area sucks monkey balls, but the pizza is definitely worth the trouble! The atmosphere is awesome! I love how the whole restaurant is decorated with pictures of all the various famous Pauly's or Paulie's! And the owner Pauly? Truly great personality, very down to earth, not afraid to talk to his clients if time or workload permits, which is a HUGE plus in my book! It's like an artist autographing every piece of art that leaves his gallery. (I'm the type of person that can't stand those who down interact with the customers...) Overall? YOU GOTTA GO THERE AND CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF!
(5)Lysabeth L.
Great family friendly, small pizza joint near our home. It wasn't busy at all on a Friday night. The calzones and pizzas were yum! The calzone is enough for two people to share, its big! The guys working the counter were very friendly! Can't wait to go again!
(5)Brian W.
F this place, this place has gone downhill. I would not recommend this place because their employees have zero customer service skills and do not know how to treat customers with respect.
(1)William V.
Awesome pizza! Real authentic style pizza. That ricotta cheese on top made all the difference. This place makes the corporate pizza makers lightweight.
(4)KatyBeth M.
Omg. Came down to Parallax to order lowers. Went by the reviews to try this place. My husband and I took our daughter. We tried 5 kinds: buffalo chicken, ranch chicken, Christmas, Mikey show, and Pesty chicken. All of them were amazing. The buffalo was so good my husband got a second slice of it. The slice are huge. The price is super cheap. Food is amazing. Staff is friendly. If you are remotely close to this place, try it NOW! We will be back next week when we are back down here to pick up our lowers!!!
(5)Frank B.
Feels like home (New York) - hole-in-the-wall restaurant, crappy parking, great pizza. Gotta love it.
(5)Josh F.
This IS the best pizza I've had in San Diego. Pauly drove the pizza to my work himself and delivered it with a smile. And the House Pie aka Christmas Pie was excellent. Feta, Pepperoni, Garlic Tomato and Bacon makes this my favorite pizza. I highly recommend this pizza as its worth the price.
(5)Wil G.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!EXCELLENT!!!! EXCELLENT!!!! Finally we found authentic New York style Pizza...especially just coming back from New York and trying the pizza out there...After living in San diego all my life....and trying all types of pizza...This is by far the best dough that Paul(owner and pizza maker)put together..I am super picky and I can't stop raving about how great the service was..Super nice and you feel like home..He treated my whole brady bunch family like it was his own...You have to try it out..Thanks Paul and Mona and staff for providing great service and experience..See you soon...
(5)Cintia G.
even after we were stuffed we ordered a large pizza to go. it was that good!
(5)James H.
i think i made have found my favorite pizza joint in san diego (i have not tried pizza port, bronx, or lefties) but this place puts all the standard pizza hut, papa johns, and EVEN BJS to shame.. Thin crust throw whatever toppings you crave for on it. I made a spinach mushroom, bacon chicken pizza and every ingredient tasted fresh and cooked just enough so that it was tasty yet never overcooked. My only complaint was that they didn't give enough chili peppers but I gues that's my fault for not grabbing it. Will be coming back!
(5)D B.
This is the best pizza in San Diego, hands down .. Just wish they would branch out and put a place downtown closer to home. If these guys made a restaurant and bar combo, they would simply just kill it. No one, no one beats Paulys pizza.. This is New York pizza at its best .. Is give them a sixth star if I could..
(5)Dale P.
I stopped by Jiffy Lube to have my truck done and Jimmy from Jiffy Lube told me to stop by this pizzeria and check it out... so far so good!!! They have some really good pizza, go try it while you get your oil changed at Jiffy Lube!
(4)Lindsay S.
I stopped in at 5pm and it was beginning to fill up. Pauly was there and asked what were my favorite toppings, I told him spinach, mushrooms and any type of strong cheese. Taleggio morsels were melted into my mozzarella...wow!!!! It was an amazing taste experience!! The spinach and sauteed mushrooms were perfectly scented with fresh garlic. But even better was the perfectly baked crust, it has a nice crispy thin texture (NY style) and I felt I was back in the big Apple! The entire case was filled with gourmet pizzas and the favs such as pepperoni. I love the framed autographs from east coast stars, Sopranos actors, and Pauly himself. To see and talk to Pauly is great, he truly cares about how his guests feel about his culinary pizza. There should be more owners like this. I am so excited to have a NY pizza joint here in San Diego and I will travel all the way from my home in Balboa Park to get a slice or pie from heaven!!! Tell anyone who works by Miramar Rd to get to Pauly's before you can't get in.
(5)Mikhail O.
Amazing! A little bit of Brooklyn right here in SD
(5)Frank C.
Love this place!!! Go all the time. I live in Santee and drive up to Miramar and it's well worth the drive every time. Excellent food and staff is friendly. Can't say enough good things about this place.
(5)Takeru T.
I found this place after an irritating trip from PB up to Miramar to pick up a package from the Ontrac warehouse on Consolidated-- You know what? Never mind. Irrelevant story. Suffice it to say I was in the neighborhood, but otherwise I'd have never found this pizzeria. It's located in a sort of oasis of restaurants on Commerce St in Miramar, and shares a parking lot with about 8 other joints. Parking would probably get pretty iffy on a busy day, but I came around 10 AM on Saturday and it wasn't too bad, since that's still well within the Friday night hangover window. When I strolled in, a friendly woman sitting at one of the tables smiled at me and asked me if I needed help with the menu after I spent a moment squinting to figure out what I wanted. I ended up getting a calzone, which arrived about 10 minutes after my order. Very good calzone, and the atmosphere of the place had a good vibe. It has a quaint feel, seems like the sort of place one could become a regular at, friendly with the owners, if only it weren't so far out of the way--at least for me--and if only I were a particularly friendly person. I think I'll probably be coming back at some point to try the pizza instead of the calzone--it looked very tasty. Overall, from first impressions alone, a very good place. Will update with more visits.
(4)Johnette W.
Great pizza! Great service! I ordered 2 large pizzas to go for a "work'" event. They made them up fresh in 15 minutes as promised. They also took the pizzas out to my car for me. My clients LOVED the hot, fresh pizza. As it turns out, my clients get Pauly's Pizza every other Friday for their entire team at the office. I will defineatly go there again!
(5)Mark W.
For this East Coast transplant, this is the best pizza I have found in the 14 years I have lived in San Diego. Great flavor, excellent crust and if you are ordering by the slice, they have a great variety. Plus the sandwiches are good too. Only negative is the parking area gets crowded and the parking places are small.
(4)Son V.
I loved Bongiorno but the parking lot is absolutely asinine during lunch hours. This prevented me from going very often. It looks like Pauly's recently took over the business and from what I could tell, the changes are positive. The place looks a little cleaner and the pizza tastes very much the same. Still very fresh ingredients and thin crust. 2 slices for $5. The parking situation still sucks but every now and then, it is worth it for one of the best pizza joints in town. /cue jersey shore reference.
(4)E T.
Seroiusly Good Pizza! I'm not sure where our firehouse got the idea to order here, and the commerical area where it's located wouldn'y suggest this is anything other than location to get a mediocre slice quickly, BUT... This is some really good, thoughtfully prepared, and TASTY gourmet pizza. Even the peperoni and sausage was well beyond the ordinary and the buffalo chicken and BBQ chicken were awesome!
(5)Joe T.
I was a little hungry and passing this place when I decided to stop in for a quick lunch. I was not interested in the other food options available in the strip mall where this place is located. Pizza was calling me over to this little hole in the hall. They offer whole pies and by the slice. I ordered the two slice combo deal with a drink. This is seriously good pizza. Just returning from New York, it reminded me of the pizza slices I enjoyed in the Big Apple. The staff was very friendly. The parking can be tight but if you take an early or late lunch, it should not be to bad.
(4)Mark P.
We finally found a great pizza in San Diego. Pauly came to the ends of the earth to deliver. Buy your next pie from this guy!
(5)Ralph S.
(4)Bill H.
I'm a thick-crust pizza kind of guy. And I loath the California Pizza Kitchen style where they seem to go out of the way to avoid the traditional "pepperoni and sausage". So I was a little leery of thin crust and toppings like ricotta and ranch dressing. But gotta say, it works! And you can't beat $6 for 2 slices and a drink.
(4)Jenny D.
Pauly's Pizza Joint rocks! I'd give it 6 stars if I could. My boyfriend and I picked up a pizza from here around 7:30 in the evening and parking was not a problem at this time. We had no problem finding the place by taking the back streets (coming from Commerce Ave). It's on Miramar Road but the entrance faces Commerce. We ordered an 18" pie, half Pauly's walnuts for the boyfriend, and half custom because I'm a picky ass eater. My boyfriend loved his half, and my pepperoni, sausage, spinach, and red pepper half was equally good. The toppings taste fresh, pizza sauce, cheese, and crust are all perfect. I really like that the sausage is thin-sliced instead of little chunks because it fits the pizza so much better. As others have said, the pizza has a "light" feel while still being packed full of flavor, so you don't feel so gross after you finish all of your huge slices. The woman at the counter was very friendly and informed us that they currently have a deal going on for $5 off any 18" pie for dine in or take out, so our pizza was 18 bucks. Even if we had paid $23 it'd be well worth it because the pizza is so damn delicious. With the best thin-crust in town, this will definitely be our new go-to pizza joint!
(5)Jocelyn C.
My husband and I came here, craving for Buongiornio's...didn't realize Mike left, so when we pulled up we were a little wary of seeing it with a new name. Pauly even said so himself, he got some big shoes to fill...but all he's doing is making a name for himself with creating equally great pizza and stellar service! We love going to places that feel like home, so oh yes, we'll definitely keep coming back! Tip: Parking at that little center has always been terrible. I would suggest heading over before the noon hour to avoid the parking headache!
(5)Ryan F.
Really good pizza for a great price. $6 gets you two big slices and a drink. At that price it's really hard to go wrong especially when it's tasty. The only problem I had was that the pizza was a little on the greasy side, but some napkins remedy that problem. Go here knowing that parking is going to be an issue, but don't knock them for it.
(4)Patricia Y.
So. Good. It looks like they just opened (re-opened?) and I'm so happy to have found it. Bronx used to be my favorite in SD but I hated having to drive there.. Pauly's is a LOT closer to where my lazy ass lives. They were having a special so ordered a Large (18inch) split with Mona Vie & Pauly Walnuts. So. Good. Between two people, we pretty much ate the whole pizza with 2 slices left. Everything was fresh and clean. The service was great and Pauly (the owner?) seemed to be very friendly. I'm really about the mom&pop shops (especially ones that I feel like go out of their way for customers) and this is definitely one I hope that sticks around.
(5)Lily H.
Excellent pizza, attentive and friendly owner/staff. Can't find a better pizza joint around here!
(5)Anh V.
pretty girl at the counter and friendly service. no wonder this place was filled with guys - well ok, it was by the auto service area. i was hanging around to wait for an estimate on my car so i popped in here for a quick snack. lots of thin crust pizza choices to choose from for a $6 deal of 2 slices with a refillable soda. booyah! i tried the pepperoni and jalapeno as well as the sausage and feta. the s&f one was a touch too salty for my taste but i'm also a low sodium eater. overall, decent deal for a meal if you are close by.
(4)Gayle R.
Very good; pesto was awesome; love the thin crispy crust! A drink & 2 huge slices for six bucks; great & friendly service!
(4)Ray C.
Best pizza around, I am from the east coast. The food is just like back home. You will not be disappointed, I eat here at least 3 times a month. Enjoy my yelper family.
(5)V C.
It was well worth the drive from Escondido to come eat pizza here. The service was excellent. Extremely friendly staff and amazing pizza. I tried 4 different slices and couldn't choose a favorite. Each slice had it's own unique flavor. They were so good that I got 2 slices to go. I wish they were closer to Escondido because they are the best pizza place I have been to in a while.
(5)Ann S.
Yes, they deliver to Mira Mesa (we are over by Mira Mesa and Camino Santa Fe). They were quick and very, very friendly. The food came hot (not warm). Ordered the vegetarian pizza, and you could recognize all the vegetables. The dough is thin (just like we like it). My husband got a sandwich and said it was good. Will definately use them again.
(4)Ryan O.
One of the best places in San Diego for a slice of pizza. There's nothing else you need to know.
(5)Leo K.
Best pie in the area! I grew up eating pizza in philly and connecticut -and this place definitely has that east coast character. Can't seem to find it anywhere else in san diego unfortunately.
(4)Brett M.
I love this place! I think it's better than Bronx, better than Luigi's, better than any other New York pizza place in San Diego. The pizza is great! The staff are super friendly and nice (Pauly himself is there ALL the time). I do think the selection is a little bit better at lunch time, but we go here a ton in the evenings because they are really nice to my whole family!
(5)Talar P.
Truly NY style pie ... large, thin slices of pizza. They have a "white cap" option, which is apparently a pizza with no red sauce. Also, be advised, the sign on the center outside still says Bongiornos Pizzeria....we drove up and down Miramar a few times before finding it!
(3)Michael G.
This is in fact my favorite pizza place in San Diego. I love the sauce, crust and their use of toppings. The price is a real steal for the quality of pizza you are getting. My favorite so far is the Spinage a Trois but I am still working my way down the menu. The only bad thing about this place is the terribly designed parking lot.
(5)Misty S.
Went to check out Pauley's for my husband's birthday. We all left with a gift--knowing where to order our pizza from now on! I am generally not a pizza lover (weird, right?!), but Pauley's can make its way to my plate anytime. We ordered by the slice for the children and a veggie pie for us. Enjoyed the food, the environment and the staff. We will be back and we will order delivery!
(5)Tom P.
paulys walnuts, just try it you'll like. been there 3 times never a disappointment. can get busy at times, better to call ahead. parking can be a bit tough. They do deliver, but probably faster to pick up...kicks miramar pizzas dough to put it politely.
(4)Jey M.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! As wonderful as Cali is, most of the pizza here sux! Well, at least to a native New Yorker. I had been going all the way down to Pizzeria Luigi on 25th & B before. They're good too, but I live closer to Miramar so I was ecstatic when I discovered Pauly's. This place reminds me of home; takes me back to my childhood. All the pizza I've tried here is great, but I usually stick to the pepperoni. When family from the east coast visited, I took them to Pauly's. Everyone agreed that they deserve a 5 star rating
(5)Paul E.
I found Pauly's through Yelp and I have become a huge fan. I first become a fan because the food is incredible. I have had the pizza, meatball sandwich & roll, and calzone all of which were incredible and at a reasonable price. I have become a bigger fan because of Pauly himself. Today my wife and I had planned our day so that we stopped by Pauly's in the afternoon to grab two sandwiches for lunch. As we walked into the restaurant through an open door we realized that it was closed, but then from the back room Pauly walk out to greet us. My wife asked if there was anyway we could get some food as we were so excited to to get some delicious sandwiches to complete our day. Pauly's was so gracious to make us some sandwiches even though he was technically closed. After visiting with Pauly I was very impressed with his dedication to his craft. He is very commited to making high quality pizza pies, hot sandwiches, calzones and salads that live up to the high standards of his New York home. I would say he has delivered on his goal and done so with excellent customer service at a great value. Go try Pauly's you will love it..
(5)C R.
Yum yum yum...good thin crust pizza with amazing toppings like tomato and pesto or ricotta and mushroom, I think there's something for everyone, I love the fact that you can come for a slice or buy a whole pie. Don't sleep on the cheese pie, which is a cross between garlic bread and cheese pizza..with a little marinara dipping sauce on the side, pure heaven, my new go to in north county...really relaxed..there always easy and accommodating....love it.
(4)Kram M.
My GF convinced me to drive all the way from downtown to get some pizza. She knew Pauly from his previous downtown location and insisted it was the best pizza she's ever had... I'm more a Chicago think crust fan, but the favor and balance of Pauly's thin crust pie has me rethinking why I like all that doe... We got five different slices ( that's what foodie GF's do and the good part about 'by the slice' pizza joints ) and I have to admit they where all outstanding. The chicken pesto white pie and the sausage, ricotta and jalapeno slices really stand out in my memory.. I want to try the spinach pies on my next visit...
(5)Christin A.
By far the best pizza I have ever had in San Diego. The staff is very friendly and always attentive and smiling. That is just a bonus to the amazing pies!! 2 slices and a drink for $6 is a deal I can not pass up. The pizza is warmed to perfection and melts in your mouth. I honestly don't like pizza but I CRAVE this pizza....I have lunch there at least once a week. A must if you are in the Miramar area. =)
(5)Jeffrey T.
Best pizza I have had for a long time, talking years here
(5)Lou C.
Really great tasting pizza, the crust is just right, even with the walnut the ingredients complimented each other and you could taste each one. Not like other chains where they just toss ingredients on top. Not to oily, just overall really really good. Came fast too when I ordered delivery. Super friendly and cool!
(5)Jerry H.
Pauly's is an undiscovered gem in the Miramar area. A small shop in a strip mall with seating for about 20+ people, the pies are extremely tasty, and worth going for. They've got calzones, strombolis, and $2.50 tiramisu! I do not live or work anywhere near there, but, luckily for me, I have business across the street from them 1-2 times a month. Two slices + soda for $6! I will be back. -
(5)Lynsey B.
Hooray! I finally found super awesome pizza delivery by my house! Pauly's Pizza is my pizza happy place. It's thin crust with really fresh and tasty toppings. Unlike most of the pizza joints that deliver near UTC, this pizza's not at all greasy. We love it! Looking forward to dining in at some point too.
(5)Brett H.
Awesome little pizza joint that makes a great pie. Staff is friendly and dining room is clean.
(5)Kali H.
Pauly, I think you stole my heart. I was having some munchies for pizza last night and decided to try something other than Roundtable, Pizza hut or other franchise. While browsing through yelp for near me pizza joints I found Paulys Pizza Joint with a hunk of great reviews I called them up to try their Specialty Thin Pizza with spinach, feta, bacon and pepperoni. When the pizza arrived it was pretty big, thinking hope this is worth the $18.50. One bite in and you stole my heart! Oily but not too oily, perfect crisp and softness ratio to every bite, you can taste every topping in every bite it was heavenly. After the first slice It was pretty filling, but of course I had another and shared it with my coworker that Is a Bronx Pizza fan.. I'm sorry I mean she WAS a bronx pizza fan. Saved some for my boyfriend and still just as amazing reheated in a toaster oven(not microwave! microwaves destroy great food). Anyways Pauly, you stole 3 hearts and my boyfriend is already looking forward to the next time we order. Update: I got my Coworkers addicted to your pizza. Also try their Calzones they are just as amazing as their pizzas. I look forward to the next time I can have you Pizza & Calzones!

The girl wanted pizza tonight, and suggested Bongiornos.I don't usually love NY Style pizza, but it's on my way home, and we've ordered it several times at work, so it was a go for the Spinach Ricotta. She called the order in. I was on my way over when she said, "Oh, it's Pauly's now." She said she talked to him on the phone for a little while and he just took over a week or so ago. Well, I don't know who Pauly is, so I'm a little worried. Still, it smells pretty good when I walk in. I ask for a to-go menu and he says he's still working out the menu and I'm thinking, "nooo! i like the menu! Leave it alone!" but I smile, nod, pay, and pick up my enormous pie (Less than $20?? Insane!) and drive home. It smells good, but it's a 20-minute drive, and the entire time I'm worried that it wont be as good as it was before. Naturally, it's a little cold by the time I get through the door. This is SO NOT A PROBLEM. It's AMAZING. Pauly has improved on the Bongiorno recipe with some really amazing ricotta and the contrast of the sweet ricotta with the salty, garlicky mozzarella is divine. The girlfriend said he's tossed the Bongiornos canned mushrooms and is using fresh now. I'm in!!!
(5)Brooklyn I.
I'll preface by saying I'm a born and raised Brooklynite, so I'm pretty picky about my pizza. That said, me like Pauly's. My girlfriend and I came here last week for the first time. The place is not much to look at but the pizza is delicious. This place has figured out how to make great Brooklyn Pizza combined with excellent California variety. The crust and sauce are Brooklyn, and the variety of unique toppings and flavors let you know your still in Cali. The staff here is very friendly and this place has a local feel to it. Overall the pizza is five stars. The service gets five stars. The location and ambience gets four stars. If you like authentic pizza, this place is worth the trip no matter where you live in San Diego.
(4)Angie B.
Oh yes. Enormous, delicious, thin crust pizza, fast service, and a pretty Italian chick behind the register. You'll have to search for it - it's hidden behind a Carl Jr's off Miramar. Worth it.
(5)Adam B.
High quality ingredients and very good pizza.
(4)J B.
Went here for lunch and there are a lot of good things to say. Two slices only $5 and they were large with generous toppings. Lots of choices I had the the BBQ chicken and spinach with red peppers and ricotta. Pizza was hot and crust is thin and crispy. Would have given 5 stars but the BBQ chicken should have red onion and cilantro and the chicken was a bit over cooked.
(4)Nadine B.
Bookmarked this place and finally got to try it! It's closer to home. The location is absolutely horrid! It's in a plaza on Miramar Road; people hit this plaza up during lunch. Crampy, shitty, and one way parking! It's a little confusing to find, it apparently used to be called Bongiornios, so the big sign on Miramar Road that lists on the shops in the plaza states that. But when you keep you eyes peeled, there are banners that say Pauly's Pizza Joint. I couldn't help but walk in and go "YEAH BUDDY!" as famously stated by Pauly D from the Jersey Shore. The workers are all tight knit and very helpful! The pizza pies are front view and center and the cashier had no problem letting me know the different flavors. Bf and I got two slices each. They had a special going on for the month of February, two slices and a drink for $5. Not bad. The drinks are self-serve and are behind the cashier. It's a wham-bam-thank-you-m'am kinda joint, but I cringed when I saw the reservoir at the soda station. It was filled with murky dirty water/soda! Why does it not have a drain?! We didn't wait too long for our pizza to come and boy is that first bite delicious! HOT CRISPY PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!! It was exactly what we were looking for and I know why people love this place. It's fast, easy, and sooo goood. For those people who like to eat, you could probably easily eat a whole pie! I'll be back to satisfy my craving! Pros: Fast Can easily see what pizza is available A good amount of seating Polite cashier Decoration on walls of different "Paul/Pauly"'s .. hey what do you know, Pauly D is on there resembling THE GODFATHER. Made me snort. Cons: Shithole plaza to oblivion Murky unknown liquid in reservoir where soda machine is Hard to maneuver around restaurant when filled with people during lunch
(4)Robin S.
Best pizza I have found so far in Cali. True east coast style pizza. Serving sizes are really big and everything is delicious! =)
(5)Liam M.
Read some of my other reviews and you will see that I am a pizza snob. Growing up in NY gives you that right, and I would say most places in SD just do not get pizza right. I found this place on Yelp and had to give it a try, man am I glad I did. Got 2 pies, large pepperoni & mushroom, large cheese, not to harsh a hit on the wallet, was ready in 25 minutes. The staff here was supa dupa friendly when I cam to get the pies. Both my wife and I were really, really impressed, and we have to put this place in the conversation as best thin crust pizza in San Diego; been to Basic, been to Bronx, been to Hoboken, this place is just as good if not better. The location is a bit weird as its a ways down Miramar Road, no real easy way to get there, and the parking lot looks like it can be tough although I came here in the evening. Bonus point for the reheat the next few days, it warms great in the oven, that is the true test of great pizza and they passed the test big time. Pretty sure I have my new pizza place, not something I take lightly either, can't wait to go back.
(5)Joe B.
I have been going to Pauly's for 3-4 weeks? I did not realize there was a pizza by the slice place in the Miramar area. I have tried a few other pizza places in the Miramar area and they were mediocre. Since I tried Pauly's I have been hooked, I'm in here 2-3 times a week. Their pizza is just right (which is hard to find). Crust is just right. Just the right amount of toppings not too much, not too little. I have been to NY thin crust places that put hardly any toppings/cheese on their pizza, not the case here. In addition to the pizza I have also had the Stromboli (It's huge) a steal at $8.00, and the meat ball sub also very good. As stated by other yelpers the parking lot can be a mess at lunch time, but I'm normally there 5pm and later so it is a non-issue for me. One of the biggest pluses at this place is the staff they are all super super nice/cool. The first time I stepped in the door it just felt right, like this is how a pizza place should be.....................Joe
(5)Jeremy B.
This is The "PIZZA" of any and ALL Pizza Joints.....End of Discussion !!! It does not get any better and the other reviewers that also gave 5 stars shows the consistency this place has. In fact I am craving it again just writing about it. The photos do not do your food justice. Dammit Pauly.....you need another location up this way. Cheers

Tried all meat and the tomato and basil pesto because they were out of buffalo and I'm veg-curious. Impressed that the pesto pizza could please a carnivore like me. Greasy goodness.

Awesome pizza, super fast delivery service! And they gave us $5 off next time!! Don't even think about the big chain pizza places--Pauly's is better!

Awesome NY style pizza! My hubby read up on this place and we decided to give it a try. We ordered two large plain pies for delivery. The owner delivered to us. The pizza was best we've had and the owner is as nice as they come. Great food and great service.

Great NY style pizza! Pauly is a nice guy. They are open later so go get dinner here to support some great pizza.

I'm in the process of moving to La Jolla...needed a quick lunch and walked in this place...now I'm wishing I hadn't because I can see the future and it's going to be me back for alot more perfectly delicious calories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just a side note, 3 days after eating here I was working in Newport Beach and stopped in Gina's Pizza...got 2 slices of cheese pizza and a drink...almost $8.00...took one bite of pizza and would have tossed it in trash had I nothing else to eat for awhile. and I see that place got good ratings...maybe it's because I grew up in Chicago and was stationed in Naples, Italy that my pizza standards are set so high. Pauly's is my new bad habit. : )

I've been twice since the business changed hands to Pauly's. It is NOT what it was when it was Bongiornos but it is still better than the rest on Miramar Road. I wouldn't drive out of my way for it but since it is close to work, I still go there from time to time. Hopefully once they get settled in, it will improve. The pakring is horrible. I definitely recommend street parking here.

excellent thin crust pie.

Delicious New York style pizza with great service and friendly staff. We showed up just before closing and they helped us pick pizza to order, chatted, and even encouraged us to stay as long as we wanted. The pesto pizza is the best I've ever had!
(5)Ted S.
The staff is really nice, and the pizza is really good. Comparable to Bronx or Luigi's. I went here near closing with a group of 8. My friend had called ahead and requested Sicilian, which is not normally on the menu. We got there, debated for a bit, and ordered two pies: veggie, and one half-chicken BBQ, half pesto chicken. Pauly, the owner, was making the pies himself, with the air-toss and everything. He was happy to accommodate us with all our special requests, and he even threw in the Sicilian slices on the house. They were delicious. The chicken pesto was the best on-menu thing we ordered, but the veggie was loaded with good fresh toppings and the BBQ wasn't half bad either. Good crisp NY-style crust, with a doughy light interior. There was no complaint about us sticking around a good 45 minutes after closing, either. Definitely one of the better pizza places in SD.

Pizzas good, parking sucks. If you order anything other then slices from the menu you are lucky if they ever get to it. We ordered something said it would be 30 minutes, ok no problem, get there there in 35minutes and it was not even in the oven. Not acceptable.

I met Pauly last week when I needed a quick bite before a meeting. Excellent choice of slices and the staff are warm and friendly. Pauly is a pizza master and it's great to see an owner who obviously loves his work and knows how to take care of his customers. If you like NY style pizza, this is the place to go.

Thank g-d Pauly's is back! Hands down this is the BEST pizza in SD County. Pauly's pizza is truly legendary and worth the drive! We waited a while for Pauly to open his restaurant and it was worth the wait. On the first day I found out he was opened I bought ten pies for my staff and family. Not one disappointed person in the group! Simply the BEST!
(5)Mike C.
Friendly staff, great prices and delicious pizza! Anything with ricotta is good here.

Went to this place today expecting Bongiorno's and got an amazing surprise. Both Pauly and his pizza are pure awesome. It seems like Pauly is constantly looking for input and new pizza to make. I was lucky enough to try his newest creation, a Sicilian pizza, which I would rank above the Sicilian Thing's Sicilian Pizza! I will definitely be coming back here. Pauly, I'll be looking forward to your newest creations. Keep up the awesome pizza!

I'm so excited Pauly's back in business, especially since his pizza is even better than ever, which I didn't think was possible! Not only does he make the best New York-style pizza in San Diego, he gets to know his customers and is such a great guy! Former Bongiorno's customers, not to worry! Pauly's pizza delivers! (Sorry, couldn't resist - cheesy pun intended :P)

The best buffalo chicken pizza!!! Also great service and reasonable price. Will be back if in San Diego again

Great tasting pizza and really friendly service! Pauly even cooked us up a complimentary stromboli that was sooooo good! definitely ordering that next time! definitely a buy.

Man, I've been looking for good NY style pizza for years. I haven't found anything close to as good as this. I just moved down to SD about 6 months ago and this is making the transition so much easier. Pizza was amazing, perfectly thin, ratio was perfect, dough was crunchy yet chewy. Best pizza I've had on the West Coast. Met Pauly as well. He was a genuinely nice guy and easy to talk to. Made us feel really welcome. Will be coming here regularly from now on.
(5)Boris C.
Best pizza delivery in San Diego, hands-down.
(5)Jeff F.
Based on just 1, very tasty slice of spinach, bacon, pepperoni, feta pizza, I can tell that Pauly's will be doing very well. I was a big fan of Bongiornos, and this is at least as good. Place has been fixed up a bit, more tables, new stuff on the walls. Will need to binge one day and sample several more slices and their sandwiches to confirm, but so far...SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!!

This is the best new Pizza place in the UTC Miramar area. NY style pizza. At lunch there are 16 choices or so which blow the competition away. $6.00 for 2 slices and a drink. (Pepsi Products) The crust is airy and traditional, the sauce is not bland. I've tried 10 different kinds and all of them were as good or better than anywhere else I've been and I've been to 20 different pizza places at least. I've tried 2 different sandwiches, the meatball and the chicken parmigiana, both very godd, rolls where soft and tasty, sauce on the garlicy side, (I like) good amount of cheese. Meatballs were tasty though not homemade, they didn't skimp on the amount in the sandwich either. Chicken Parm was same sauce and cheese and chicken was pretty tender and tasty. I definetly look forward to exploring the rest of the options on the menu and the other 6 or so kinds of pizza I haven't tried. The owner Paulie is nice guy as well as the crew. Not a cozy sit down and relax type place, more like a NY pizza parlor feel. The negative here is the lack of pizza choice in the mid afternoon, maybe 3 or 4 choices, but I understand this minor issue to keep waste down. I eat there a couple times a week, I hope they expand.

VERY pleasantly surprised by how delicious their pizza was. This place is the definition of hole in the wall - I only found out about it because a few friends wanted to go out and get some pizza. They have awesome specials through the entire day! I got the two slices + drink combo for $6.50. Well worth it, considering the pizza slices are generously sliced. I got a standard pepperoni slice and a chicken bacon ranch slice. The chicken bacon ranch was unexpectedly good, but it was the pepperoni that blew me out of the water. I don't know what it was about it, maybe the sauce, but it was one of the most delicious slices of pizza I've ever had in my life. I raved about it for so long that one of my friends stopped eating his own pizza and bought a slice for himself. Needless to say, he was blown away as well. I highly recommend this pizza joint; don't judge a book by its cover! When you walk in, you're gonna think "this place is gonna suck," but it really doesn't. The parking lot is kind of strange, as every spot is either 1 hour parking or something like that. That's not a huge deal as your pizza won't survive for longer than 5 minutes.

One of the few delivery places around here so that's a plus. Garlic bread is yummy and SUPER garlicky! Stromboli is delicious and the sauce is flavorful. Pizzas are creative and super yummy. I had the Mikey Show, loved it! Have ordered here several times. Great place.

Whoa I never knew I live so close to this gem. Honestly think they might just be better than Regents for me. I LOVE thin and crisp crust! (sorry deep dish lovers) They also have huge slices of pizza, I was full with just two big slices. What's better than that is their combo deals! Two slices and a drink for $6.50...like where else are you going to find that deal with DELICIOUS pizzas? They also have a good selection of pizzas...red, white, meat lovers, you name it! The shop itself isn't too big, the AC isn't too strong either, so it was quite stuffy on a hot day. Other than that, I'm a big fan, will be back!

I like how they sell it by the slice but really the quality of the food was mediocre. The crust was dry, quality of toppings were meh. I was a little mad at myself for wasting my stomach space. $2.50 a slice, same as Bronx Pizza in Hillcrest but they are 20 times better!

Swung by here after I got my iPad fixed next door to grab a quick lunch with Wee One. They have about 20 types of pizzas in the case, each one looking better than the last. (Minus a quarter star since they weren't labeled, you just had to guess "does that look like artichoke to you?") We tried a slice of spinach with bell peppers and a slice of spinach. They were both amazing. The crust was perfect: thin but still foldable, not at all rock hard like some places. I will definitely be back! It was so good, Wee one ate almost half a slice with plenty of spinach. Nice big slices too. They run about $2.50/slice. I found out today that they deliver to my apartment and can now die happy. I ordered the spinage a trois which is made of spinach, meatballs, pure deliciousness and ricotta. Order one now!

Delicious NY style pizza - thin crust and amazing customer service. We came in on a Friday night and there were several couples in the joint. The place is located on Miramar Road by the Subway and Albertacos. Since we were not eating meat during Fridays for lent, we opted to order the 18" Margarita pizza. The thin crust pizza didn't take long to bake and we ate in the restaurant. The crust was nice and crisp. The only 2 recommendations I have are to have more cheese please and to have fresh basil. I felt it was missing something and I'm pretty sure it was the fresh basil vs. having the basil pesto. Nonetheless they have great specials and pizza creations. The staff are very welcoming and converse with all patrons. The drink station is behind their counter, which is a little weird but hey it works! Their wall is full of famous "Paul" celebrities. NICE, give the establishment character. Free delivery within the area.

Grabbed a really great pizza there the other night, the Christmas Pie. It was delicious, melty cheese and real bacon! My only regret was not eating it there. It's the type of pizza that has a crisp, hot crust, which is best enjoyed as soon as it is out of the oven. Sticking it in a cardboard box and driving it home is a disservice to the pizza. They had a refridgerator full of beer too, so I'd add that in on my next visit. And even though we were there 20 minutes before their close, the owner and employees were so nice to us. They asked if we wanted to stay to eat, but we didn't want to keep them. Definitely will eat in next time and there will definitely be a next time.

It was SuperBowl Sunday, and we were looking for some good pizza. I chose Pauly's Pizza Joint from the reviews of "New York Style Pizza). Overall, I found the pizza at Pauly's Pizza Joint to just be okay. We ordered the following 2 of the 18" signature thin crust pizzas: - Tony Sirico - pepperoni, sausage, bacon, fresh mushroom, red pepper, green pepper (we asked for no olives) - Margarita - fresh tomato, parmesan, garlic, basil pesto My complaint? The ingredients weren't "fresh". What's up with the basil pesto and the parmesan cheese for the Margarita pizza? I'm used to eating Margarita Pizza in New York City with fresh basil (not basil pesto) and mozzarella cheese (sometimes with bufala mozzarella). As for the Tony Sirico pizza, the ingredients on top of the pizza were okay quality. However, on both pies, the dough was not "fluffy". We had ordered the pizzas for pickup, so it was about 20 minutes between when we picked up the pizza and when we started eating. The dough was "tough"; I'm a pizza crust girl and ended up not eating the pizza crust. At the end of the SuperBowl game, only 3 slices of the Margarita pie and only 2 slices of the Tony Sirico pie was eaten. Each 18" signature pie had roughly 8 slices. Not worth the $20 per pie. I'd rather go to Blaze Fast-Fire'd Pizza for a chain "gourmet" pizza. Fresh ingredients on dough in under 10 minutes.

Located in a random miramar plaza... Pizza tasted good! Crispy!!! Tasted slightly different from the ones I've tried in NY! (maybe the pizzas had a SLIGHT SD twist to them). The best thing about this place is price: two slices + drink for $6!!! That's a great deal in SD (cheaper than Regents Pizzeria by far). I got pepperoni + sausage and chicken pesto pizzas. yummy. I recommend both. The place is small (maybe fits around 20~30 people max). It's not a loud bustling restaurant but rather a small hole-in-the-wall JOINT (the "JOINT" really describes this place well). Friendly service! Would go back.

My daughter and 13 of her girlfriends were celebrating my daughter's 15th birthday, so I had to find a place that would be able to accommodate this large of a party and be able to satisfy teenaged girls, who have a variety of cuisine likes or dislikes. In other words, girls who could be picky. Besides 14 girls, I also had to think of my son and his buddy, and of course my better half's discerning taste buds. Understanding who my targeted audience was, I thought I can't go wrong with pizza, which is why I chose Pauly's Pizza Joint (PPJ). Based on excellent reviews from my foodie bible, Yelp, I contacted PPJ approximately a week in advance to make reservations for a decent sized party. The reason for PPJ's walk on water, 5 star review is because of their outstanding customer service, particularly from the owner, a vibrant, friendly, and outgoing young lady. When I called approximately a week prior to the day we were visiting her restaurant, I explained to the owner how many people were in my party, the day and time I would need, and why I was making the reservation for. Keep in mind the party was for a Saturday at 5:30pm. The owner said that she would have no problem accommodating us that day and that time. When the day of the party arrived and we entered the restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised that we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Unbelievably on a Saturday. Fortunately for us the stars were aligned because typically PPJ's is usually busy, but the time of our party, 5:30pm, was the perfect time to have a party. For those looking for a place to have a pizza party, this is a good time, but make sure you call in advance to check for availability. We basically had a private party at the restaurant unintentionally. As for the decor of PPJ, the wall with framed photographs of famous Paulys is a nice touch to a simple, tiny restaurant. There are about 6-8 tables inside the restaurant with a few seating options outside. As I stated above, the customer service was impeccable. Another recommendation for anyone wanting to have a party at PPJ, make sure to place your order ahead of time, so that the pizza is ready when you arrive. I called prior to our arrival, ordered five 18" pizzas, two garlic pizza pies, and drinks. Since we were on a time schedule, ordering ahead of time really saved us on time. I would rate the food a respectable 4 stars. The pizzas I recommend are the following: their signature Pauly Walnuts (no actual walnuts), the TKO, the Mikey Show, and the BBQ Chicken. For those spicy kick pizza lovers, the Mikey Show has jalapenos along with an abundant amount of pepperoni and sausage. A definite must order is the garlic pizza pie, which is their version of garlic bread. Loved their tasty and garlicy crust on all the pizzas I tried. For drinks, they have a self service fountain drink station. If you're looking for a place where a bunch of teenaged girls can be fed tasty, delicious pizzas, has an owner who understands the importance of customer service and is modestly decorated, I highly recommend Pauly's. But, there was one more positive attribute about Pauly's that I hesitated to include in my review because it was mainly positive for my daughter and her 13 girlfriends. I would be delinquent in my duties of providing a thorough Yelp review if I didn't include this. My daughter's birthday was memorable for her and her friends because of the handsome young man behind the counter named Pedro. The highlight of their visit to Pauly's was the pictures they took with Pedro. Thanks Pauly's Pizza Joint for making me a hero on my daughter's birthday.
